Once again, I strive to assist you.................I am responding to the imeptus behind merely one tranche of a modernist trend which seeks to make centrists and believers of us all, one way or the other.

Nope, twisting my words there. I said the lack of television exposure is a big factor its non-popularity, you brought in some argument about Jack Dempsey which is a ridiculous comparison. People didn't watch Dempsey on TV but he would have received heavy coverage on radio and in newspapers. You cannot compare that to the present day where there are many different media platforms, each of which is heavily saturated.

Is there a market for it? I don't know and I don't particularly care, it isn't my thing, but there may be a percentage of the population who would be interested in seeing it and that in turn may boost its popularity.Either way it is a valid argument.

It's very simple, exposure = potentially heightened interest. If nobody sees you then they won't care. I know that you know this already though.

No, it's our national sport and its popularity has already been well established.

This is a fancy way of saying you're reading fluff pieces about fringe sporting events and attaching unrealistic importance to them ... It's like an 80 year old reading the daily mail or watching Fox News and, besieged by a relentless downpour of threatening stories, looking behind the hamper and under the cushions for the cause ... In real life this isn't going to fucking matter EVER... A small number of people will continue to enjoy this sport... Articles no one except you remembers will be written... Men's football will continue to dominate the landscape ... You're making a mountain of a mole hill

And what had so-well established boxing at the time that L Sullivan was packing them in :dunno:

Some sports, plied by certain participants, are more popular than others, irrespective of how well "broadcast" they are.

Nobody was able to read when Jack Dempsey was doing his thing. Communications were largely non existent.

A lust for blood and the word of mouth was all that boxing needed.

That "Womens" Soccer needs a PR campaign says a lot about its innate appeal.

That people are being criticized for not possessing an innate love of "Womens" football says a lot about modern, centrist ways of thinking.

I think, fundamentally, that is where we differ............I am always on the lookout for instances of thought-policing.

For me the trigger is the mere instance of same.

For you, the trigger is not thought policing, but rather whether the thoughts in question matter a fuck to begin with.

Neither of us is right or wrong, per se.

I just dislike attempts to curry favour, colour opinion or force support.

Let the chips fall where they will, is my motto.

By all means, promote, push, market and sell financially oriented events..........I distinguish between advertising on one hand and instruction on the other.

Irish, the prime minister could come out tomorrow and say "we owe it to our girls and our country to watch them play" and aside from some murmurs of agreement, nobody would watch ... No one is going to successfully shame people into watching a sporting event ... By getting so hung up on it, you're only encouraging the few that might try it ("see! Look how mad he is!")

He got fined by the SFA recently for telling a Dutch interviewer the words to the song the fans sing for him. Ridiculous.

Does look a bit like one of those masters testimonials you see where its a fat, 46 year old Tom Boyd tripping over his feet as a half-cut, balding Lee Sharp scuffs a cross. Then they haul their arses up and laugh ruefully at each other.

The sheer onomatopoeic beauty of that post deserves applause, especially the last part of it. :bears: :bears:

I can just picture it in my mind, the fat-arsed relics of yesteryear, engaged in a low-speed pursuit of an inflated bladder, in a balance-deficient spectacle of anaemic hypoxic splendour, displaying more involuntary movement than an automaton during an electro-therapy shock session.
