One of my favorite things to read/watch are the in-depth technical looks at fighters and fights, from people who can see and articulate those aspects of the sport.

I found some good websites that have some breakdowns. Anyone have other links to good analyses of this sort, or their own analyses?

    Thanks for that Eric.

  4. One of the best boxing reads I've had in a while was a breakdown of the 4 major styles: Slugger, Puncher, boxer and Pressure fighter. They showed how it's almost a rock, paper, scissors type scenario when these styles clash..and even spoke to Hybrid such as boxers who can punch and puncher who can box...going as far as to contrast those two types.

    Great read.

That analysis of Ray Robinson - impressive. But you wanna really impress me? Do the same type of analytical breakdown of Ricardo Mayorga.

Some guys are all 4 at different points of a fight and different stages of a round etc.

  7. Mayorga was a caveman, but when he first arrived on the scene he injected some serious excitement into the game. He was poorly managed and that lead to his swift downfall (shouldn't have fought Spinks, should have instead waited for Mosley.....SHOULD NOT have fought Tito at 160lbs...suicide).

I enjoyed reading the "How Marquez beat Pacquiao" article, but I did feel he gave Marquez a little too much credit, saying he was controlling the fight and it was a brilliant performance etc.

It was a brilliant KO, no question, and yes both knockdowns were technical, because Marquez is a technical fighter, but he wasn't controlling the fight. For the first time, Pacquiao was winning handily and got too cocky.

The Golovkin one is an interesting read too, he does a good job of describing Gaybox's intelligent pressure and masterful use of distance, relentless yet never overcommitting.

Not sure how much his ping can be trusted though, he not only compares Gaybox to the fat legged Ginger, he even suggests Alvarez has a chance of beating Golovkin, as well as Frock and little Floyd

  11. Fat legged Ginger is not as bad a fighter as you make him out to be MWS. Of course I think GGG beats him, but Alvarez is a decent fighter.

To be fair, yeah, he's probably not as much of a scrub as I make him out to be. His resumé isn't bad for his age, and he does appear to be willing to fight anyone apart from Gaybox.

He's just never impressed me, and I think he's overrated.

I expect Cotto to thump him, so if he beats Cotto, I'll have to admit he's significantly better than I give him credit for ;)

    Hamed
    Vitali
    Joe Calzaghe
    Wlad
    Roy Jones.

\Vitali vs Arreola..........guy spent large parts of the fight on the back foot, aggressively beating the shit out of Arreola but never trying to knock him out until probably the 9th round when he really put his weight behind his shots. Just an example.

Hamed too........Hamed vs Kelley, he was slugging, boxing, stalking and backpedalling throughout.

Hamed was a potshotting puncher, nothing more.

Calzaghe and Vitali were just awkward volume punchers, wald pussy is a petrified "boxer", Roy is just Roy, an animal like athletetic phenom in the ring. I don't agree with any of your examples.

Yep, some fighters peak early, and Alvarez has shown no signs of improvement. He has looked the same for years.

Hamed could, especially under Manny, throw an orthodox jab, move, change stance and spark a dude with a left hand.

Vitali as an "Awkward Volume Puncher"..........he backs up, moving, but is throwing hard hooks and rights, not jabs. He's boxing and punching all at the same time, getting hit very very little and it's not like he is running and flicking the jab either. This is not a Leonard vs Duran II job faggot job.

Look at Calzaghe vs Lacy.........he was hitting the guy low, out-wrestling him, out-grappling him, spinning off, running, throwing southpaw jabs and then abandoning his jab and just flailing away....he had no set modus operandi.....the one constant being that he exerted pressure all night and set the pace all night.

He's improved since he was 19-20, but that was to be expected.

He's been the same fighter for the last 2-3 years. What improvements did he show in the Kirkland fight?

Kirkland is a chinny Mixer who likes to beat up sparring partners.

But when El Pale Pelirojo gets him in the ring, he crumples, like all these fucking Mixers.
