Yep, agreed. Cotto's rep is bizarre. His chin is absolutely fine, above average at world level. As I said, he takes single shots without a problem, his problem is more endurance and taking sustained punishment. He's been stopped once by a guy with cement in his gloves, and once by the best offensive fighter of the generation. His chinniness or "fragileness" is grossly overstated. In fact I reckon he'll hurt the fat legged Ginger more than vice versa. He seems to be punching surprisingly hard now, as evidenced by his 2 most recent fights.
Cotto is THE most overrated fighter in the sport currently. I can't wait til fat legged Ginger knocks his ass out and brings yall back to reality. Actin like he's the Latin Ray Robinson.
:dunno: This is just you wanting to bring back Tito vs. Hopkins era on this board....NOBODY..is overating Cotto...or saying he is unbeatable...but at 147-154 there is only a handful of fighter that could beat him...and CANELO is one of them....thats way we are excited over this fight...
Not even close. We're simply saying he's good, to provide a bit of balance to you, cdogg and a few others who act like he's a total scrub. Cotto is a good fighter, there is no doubt about that.
Against Corley, Torres, Margarito, Pacquiao...showed he's fragile. That one shot from Corley had him quivering like a drunken bum. Margarito beat his ass down as did Pacquiao. He's not Bruce Seldon chinny, no one is saying that...but he's vulnerable...more so than many other top tier fighters.
Corley also hurt mayweather much worse. Those were temple shots. Torres is one of the hardest punchers in boxing at the time. Prior to the Cotto loss, he was undefeated with all his wins by KO. And the only time he dropped Cotto was when he pushed him down. Did he have Cotto hurt? Yeah, but Cotto's chin didnt hurt him in that fight in helped him. Most men would have been out with those shots Torres landed. Margarito had wraps and still it was Cotto that took a knees in that fight. Going down against pac, one of the greatest ever, is really his only time being dropped from a legit punch.
Corley didn't hurt Mayweather worse than he hurt Cotto. Cotto was out of it. If Corley knew how to finish (or wasn't paid off to lose...depending on the truth) Cotto would have most certainly received his first loss. Corley inexplicably didn't follow up with a barrage of head shots and just passively threw the odd body punch. Cotto was DONE and Corley let him off the hook. Mayweather was buzzed for a very short period of time. Margarito wraps...blah blah blah..he beat Cotto down. Probably would have done the same thing in the rematch if Pacquiao hadn't already fucked up his eye, wraps or no wraps. Pacquiao bounced Cotto a couple times at least...and Pacquiao wasn't able to bounce many other Welterweights including Clottey and Margarito.
You see cotto's face in that Margarito fight? You think that was a result of natural punching? And you cant base Margarito's lose to Cotto due to Pac's beating and not think that Cotto's actual first time being dropped from a punch didnt have something to due with the Margarito beating. That being said, Look at the difference in Cotto's face the first fight and the second. And Cotto fought the exact same way in both fights
wtf? What board are you reading? That being said, you want to bet a nickel on if Cotto gets knocked out or not?
Corley also hurt Floyd, as did Zab, as did Shane - is Floyd fragile too? 140 was Cotto's most fragile weight, but he still never even went down. Yeah Pacquiao beat his ass, but the Plasterito fight may as well be a NC, it doesn't count.
Man.....there's hurt and then there's hurt. Floyd was not hurt anywhere near as badly as Cotto was. Shit the worst Floyd has been hurt was against Shane, and he came right back at Shane almost immediately after. Cotto was is deeeeeep trouble vs Corley.
They were both hurt. Let's not forget, even at his most fragile weight, Cotto was never even knocked down. Nor did he lose a fight there. Again, his fragility is grossly overstated. No, he's not the toughest fighter out there, but people on Fightbeat are acting like he's Amir fucking Khan.
He was much more hurt against Torres and the only time he went down was from a push. And torres knocked out practically everyone he faced.
The corely fight is strange to mention as far as chin is concerned. He was clearly hit on the temple.
Corley Hurt Floyd WORSE Than Any Man Floyd's Ever Faced...If Not for the Ropes, Floyd would've Undoubtedly Been Knocked on his ASS...Corley DRILLED him & Floyd Stumbled Backwards DRUNKENLY, Into the Ropes...Floyd was FORTUNATE he Wasn't Closer to Center Ring when he Got Clipped or he'd have Received his 1st LEGIT Knockdown Right Then and There... Point Being, Getting HURT by Corley SHOULDN'T Be Held Against Cotto Anymore than it's Being Held Against Floyd...Cotto CAN Be Hurt, but REED Would Stop SHORT of Labeling Dude "Fragile"... Is/Was JM Marquez "Fragile"???... REED:hammert:
I think at least part of this (whether correctly perceived or not) fragility is cuts and swelling. Cotto has been "buzzed" quite a few times but we've also seem bloodied up and it's not just from Margarito fight.
Seriously it's ridiculous, it's just this unfounded label that's stuck. Is Marquez fragile for getting knocked down hard by a bum like Katsidis? Of course not, it's boxing, and sometimes people get knocked down or hurt. Even people with good chins. I haven't heard anyone calling Manny "fragile" for getting KHTFO (hbah ahbamhbamha bah) by Gay Marquez, despite that being arguably more of a show of fragility than Cotto has ever shown. Again, Cotto aint the toughest fighter around, he can be hurt, and he can be stopped - but so can even most elite fighters. Not everyone is Hagler or Chuvalo. Even Tyson got stopped ffs, in his prime, is he fragile too? :: Cotto's chin is fine, he absorbs single shots well. His endurance could be better, but he still has better stamina than Ginger, and if anyone is getting stopped it's the fat legged Ginger.
w/All That Being Said, Cotto Has 2 Stoppage Losses... There's a Pretty GOOD Chance Margarita was CHEATING in their Bout...After All, Cotto had Already BEATEN Sugar Shane, who Margarita was Eventually OUTED Against...Sooooo LOGICALLY Speaking, there's REASON to Believe Margarita Cheated vs. Cotto as Well...Nonetheless, Cotto's CORNER Threw in the Towel that Night; it's Not like Cotto was Flat on his Back, Getting Bounced Off the Canvas Repeatedly or in Danger of Losing Consciousness... Sure, his SKIN Got Shredded (Casting Fuuuuuuuuurther DOUBT Into the Legitimacy of Margarita's Handwraps), but Cotto's Punch Resistance DIDN'T Betray Him... vs. Pacquiao, Cotto was Stopped ON HIS FEET...Good Stoppage, as the Bout was 1-Sided and Manny was Pouring it On, SEEKING the KO, but Again, Cotto was Stopped ON HIS FEET... Even as a Pac Fan, it MUST Be Said; Like Margarita, there's a VERY GOOD Chance Manny was CHEATING that Night...Immediately AFTER that Bout is When Floyd Got On his Random Drug Testing Soapbox & Guess What???...Manny HASN'T Knocked Another Man Out Since...Nearly 6 FULL Years and 10 Bouts Later, yet Manny HASN'T Registered Another Stoppage Win...Coincidence???... But Again, Even w/Manny LIKELY Cheating, Even w/Manny's Offensive Wherewithal, Cotto Finished that Bout ON HIS FEET... Miguel Cotto has THE Best Resume in Boxing, Currently, in REED's Humble (???) Opinion...He's Fought just about EVERYbody, EVERY Style, Including a BOATLOAD of Motherfuckers than Could Punch...Yet & Still, he Only has 2 Stoppage Losses, One in Round 11, the Other in Round 12... No, he's NOT Jake LaMotta or Even Ruslan Provodnikov when it Comes to Sheer TOUGHNESS, but Cotto Ain't "Fragile" Either... REEDhno:
Remember how badly Torres hurt Cotto? But Torres was a big puncher. Seems like Cotto's chin was bad at 140 but has been okay since moving up. What's interesting about Cotto is that his power seems better than ever. Is it true? Or is it just rodriguez, martinez and Geale were perfect opponents?
Sorry. Was already said about 140 and torres. Still. How about Cotto's power. Could it really have improved the way it appears to have?
Cotto's seems to have improved his punching power. Not sure if it's the right opponents. As for the fight it's a 50/50 for sure. I can see Cotto winning it but can also see Canelo's youth taking over. This is a must watch fight!
As I said, I think Cotto is punching particularly hard at the moment, you can see/hear the power. Bear in mind he's fighting bigger guys now, not exactly the best type of opponent to look powerful against ;) He's getting that old man strength now, a la Gay Marquez :kidcool: He'll hurt the fat legged Ginger more than vice versa, and probably stop him.
Your little fat legged Ginger hero will be turned to a piece of orange jelly every time Cotto lands his left hook clean.
Really? I think Cotto can outbox him but eventually this is going to be a drag out war. Someone is getting stopped.
Ginger ' s defense is not great. He will get hit clean. Cotto on the other hand will be much harder for Canelo to find.
