Err, no, they are not elite fighters and we never said they were. Robbie Lawler on the other hand, is. He's on an impressive run of beaten top ranked fighters, and is a consensus top 10 pound for pounder - ie he's an elite fighter.
Royness do you think that someone that has made it to the top like Baldomire and Gatti and Buster Douglas are elite boxers?
You act like Miller was some low level scrub. The dude was a competent fighter during most of his career. I watched him grapple on relatively even terms with Jacare and Shields. He actually beat Tim Kennedy. The idea that he submitted Lawler isn't some huge black mark on Lawler's resume anymore than it is for Kennedy. And if you don't think fighting in a weight class 15 pounds heavier isn't a difference, then you really can't be reasoned with. All I know if the Lawler of today has beaten 3 very good welterweights in Brown, Hendricks and MacDonald. Hendricks is a guy that probably deserved the decision against the great GSP and Lawler took the title from him. This isn't some weak time in the welterweight division. Rory MacDonald is absolutely an exceptional fighter. He was the heir apparent to GSP's throne. And Hendricks is a guy that probably would have ended GSP's reign. Lawler has beaten them both in back-to-back fights.
Nope, didn't say that. My position is if you go on a good enough run to make it into the top 10 pound for pound, and especially beat an elite fighter, you're obviously an elite fighter yourself. Being the champ is just one of the criteria Robbie fills. Solid run of top fighters - yes. Beat a proven elite fighter - yes. Champ - yes Robbie ticks all the boxes to be an elite fighter, not just one.
You said you dont get to the top unless you are an elite fighter. So Again, is Buster Douglas Elite? Is Trinidad Elite? You said no. You cant have it both ways.
Yep. If that's not a good run, what is? Lawler beat the guy that arguably beat GSP, yet he acts like Lawler is some basic scrub that GSP would have "destroyed". And also, he's a Robbie "fan" :: He also acted like all Lawler had was power. Yet, he's not actually that powerful, and beat Brown, Hendricks, and Rory with his overall striking ability and TD defense, it's not like he knocked them TFO with 1 punch. Then Anthony said actually, the only reason he beat those guys is his chin, not power afterall :scratcher:
One judge thought Lawler lost to Hendricks and so did many others. It wasnt a clear victory. And beating matt Brown somehow means something? Yeah he has beaten 3 good welterweights. I wouldnt classifiy Matt Brown as VERY GOOD.
Buster Douglas had elite ability, but didn't really get to the top. He got one flukish win. Lawler's recent one is far more than one flukish win. Tito lost to every elite fighter he faced, in 1 sided fashion. He's the classic guy that looks like a beast against merely "good" opponents, then gets clowned against true elite fighters.
If you're a top 5 welterweight in the UFC, you're very good. Saffedine is good. Rick Story is good. Damien Maia is good. Matt Brown is very good.
If Hendricks arguably beat GSP and you count that as something, than Hendricks arguably beat Lawler in his second fight and that should mean just as much. I never said Lawler was scrub. Just not elite. So Lawler doesnt have power? example of toughness/chin and Power. <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/U9oFovBdmZA" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="420"></iframe>
Douglas didnt get to the top huh? That must have been another undisputed heavyweight champion he knocked out. Tito was arguably #2 on the P4P list and for sure # 10 and based on that (your standards), he should be elite. But god forbid you be consistent right? Tell me again about trolls.
Brown is actually there because he's won 8 fights in the UFC's welterweight division since 2012 while Nick Diaz hasn't won a single fight in that period.
No, Tito wasn't arguably #2 on a P4P list. He was horrendously overrated based on destroying average fighters. Tito would be elite if he didn't get embarrassed by every elite fighter he faced, yeah. As it stands, the real elite fighters let us know loud and clear that Tito wasn't, in fact, a true elite fighter. You also listed one of the most flukey instances of a fighter getting to the top. A super motivated douglas, against a flat, untrained Tyson. It was a one in a million fight. Clearly not the same as Robbie's recent run. Yes, run, not one flukish fight.
Exactly. And that's precisely why I would pick Robbie in a rematch. Diaz is basically a joke these days. Talks a load of shit and pulls lots of mean mug faces, only to get in the cage, ponce around, give it the big one, and get beaten up. He hasn't won a fight since 2011 ffs.
It sad Im the only one here to call you out on your bullshit. Like i said, even if you dont consider Tito p4p #2, he was definatley in the top ten. And what did you say about people in the top ten? Oh yeah, they were elite. troll
Nah, I don't even think Tito was top 10 P4P. I think there were always 10 fighters in any weight that would have beaten him.
Exactly. And this statement alone, everyone that agrees with you on lawler should stop what they are doing. Re-examine their stance and apologize to me, because clearly your judgment is shit and have no clue what the fuck you are talking about.
Yeah OK Tito nuthugger :atu: So elite! Here's the punchstats of Anthony's #2 P4P! Speaking of not knowing what one's talking about, in addition to not knowing what the fuck you're talking about regarding Tito (#2 P4P :atu: ) you literally have no idea what you're talking about regarding Lawler. First it's all he has is power. Then all he has is chin. Then it's a combination of chin, toughness, and power. Make your fucking mind up innit.
Dude, theres no way to know what the situation would be if GSP kept fighting. There is absolutely no guarantee that he'd still be champ. Over the last 2 years GSP could have been knocked out by Hendricks in a rematch and retired anyway.
GSP was the greatest welterweight of all time, but he was declining at the end. I think it's likely he would have lost in the last couple years if he had continued fighting. I'm glad he went out as champion instead of fighting too long like Anderson Silva or BJ.
