To cover a few subjects.... Stop with the Diaz beats Lawler today argument. There's never been a more overrated fighter in MMA than Nick Diaz. And today's Diaz is a paranoid, uninterested shell of himself who lacks the skills to adapt if you don't stand in front of him and let him punch you. I honestly can't see Diaz beating any top fighter these days. If Diaz does come back to the UFC, he should be regulated to fighting 'name' fighters in meaningless fights, like a matchup against Michael Bisping. Entertaining, but at the end of the day, meaningless. As for Robbie being elite, I don't think that he is. I'm a big Lawler fan and have always been, and he's certainly one of the best fighters today and is on an amazing run, but he's not elite. Maybe my definition of elite is different than others. To me, elite is like prime Anderson or GSP, when you knew coming into the fight their opponents had no chance of winning. For as good as Lawler is fighting right now, can you honestly say you think if he fights a top 5 fighter, his opponent has no shot of winning? TFK
Agreed on Diaz, as I said, the guy hasn't won a fight since 2011. He's a borderline joke these days. As far as being elite, I suppose we all have our own definitions. My definition is basically one of the 10 best fighters in the world, in any division. And a guy who you can imagine giving almost anyone a run for their money. Prime GSP or Silva, they are P4P #1 type of talents, same as Pacquiao and Floyd. That's a pretty strict criteria for elite isn't it? It means there's only a couple of elite fighters in the world at any given time, basically. If you consider Robbie one of the best fighters today (which we both do), the way I see it is how is that not elite?
Brother MWS, Your CONTEMPT for Tito Trinidad SHITS on your Logic in this Instance... When Tito was a Welterweight, there WEREN'T 10 Better in the Division...Hell, there WEREN'T 2-3 Better...When Tito was a Jr. Middle, there WEREN'T 10 Better in the Division...When he Fought @ Middleweight, there WEREN'T 10 Better in that Division Either... Dude had his Limitations for Certain, but Make NO Mistake About Is, Tito Trinidad was an ELITE Fucking Fighter...Not Sure How You Could Sooooo VEHEMENTLY Argue Otherwise, Based on the Very Criteria YOU'RE Using... REED
I'm surprised at the Tito hate in here Tito lost to hops and wink he whipped everyone else and in impressive fashion mostly
The "elite" label is certainly subjective and 100% opinion. If you have to be a GSP or Silva to be elite, the word might be overused a bit.
You could say anyone you see on TV in UFC is elite, the vast majority of people in fighting gyms around the world are unknown. It a very very small number of people that not just fight but fight on televised cards
That's kind of my thought. If you're the best 170 pounder in the UFC, which is comprised of the best fighters in the world, I have no problem with the "elite" label.
That's comparing them to joe's on the street. If compare among pro fighters only, the term should not be used that often. Silva, GSP, Jones, Fedor, etc
He means 10 better in any division, so 10 fighters in the world no matter what there division is. P4P basically...
As I said, it's preposterous to only reserve the "elite" label for phenoms like GSP and Silva etc. Then you'd only have like 2 elite fighters in the sport at any given point, that's far too strict. An elite fighter for me means "one of the best fighters in the sport", ie one of the 10 best. And someone who could conceivably compete with pretty much any other fighter in the world. Which is still a select few really, when you consider quite how many active pro fighters there are in the entire world right?
It's crazy man. And I appreciate you having the balls to call him out on it. If he wants to call Robbie Lawler Elite, fine. But dont give some damn criteria you use to determine that and then tell me Tito was not elite. It throws his whole argument out the window. And let's not even get started with Kostya Tszyu.
I'm well aware of where he was ranked thanks. Some idiots even had him as P4P #1 (maybe you were one of them), and we quickly saw how absurd that was. Tito was never one of the 10 best fighters in the world, at any point, let alone #2. That was proved by him getting clowned by every true elite fighter he faced. The guy was a 3-1 favourite over Hopkins ffs, that shows quite how overrated he was. He looked more like a 20-1 underdog when the fight started :gig:
Even how you worded it was ridiculous. According to you prince Hamed and Diego corales could have beaten Tito p4p. Fuck out of here man.
Nothing ridiculous about thinking Tito wasn't one of the 10 best fighters in the world. Yeah, he is better than Hamed, who is another obscenely overrated fighter, who didn't belong on the P4P list. What's more ridiculous is thinking Tito is #2 P4P. Is this the mark of the #2 P4P fighter in the world, a super elite fighter of incredible, special talent? :laugh11: Again, Tito is the classic type of fighter he looks beastly against decent comp, but is horribly exposed at elite level, and looks like a 1 dimensional scrub with his feet stuck in mud.
Ok, and i can show you ten fights in which Lawler lost and many fights he lost to people not even ranked in the top ten. LMAO! Your point caller?
The difference is, Hopkins landed plenty of powershots and beat Winky. Tito lost every second of every round, barely landed a punch, and was made to look like a total scrub. The Winky - Tito punchstats very much tell the tale of the fight. So yeah, even the 42 year old Hopkins that beat Winky was more of an elite fighter than Tito has ever been.
Yeah, and those fights wouldn't be representative of the current iteration of Lawler who has clearly improved, and is at his peak. You point, numpty? LMAO!
And that fight was one for Tito? Coming off retirement and his only tuneup was a made to order Mayorga? Please.
So anyways. Everyone agrees Tito is Elite. Everyone agrees your definition of Elite clearly translate to Tito. So either Tito is Elite or Robbie isnt. You can choose. Either way, my point has been made. Also more than 4 people already agree with me that they wouldnt go so far as to Call Robbie Lawler Elite. I also want to add that this thread has proven that you are equally as stubborn in your opinions as I am, yet you being the hypocrite, want to call me on it. Good day sir.
To me, that's what elite means. The absolute best of the best. And right now I think Lawler is among today's best, but I can't in good faith say he's the best of the best. That could change, though. TFK
Precisley. If everyone is Elite, what is Silva, GSP, Jones? Elite Elite? that's ridiculous. Elite is having the best abilities and skills out of a group. And the champ doesnt always have to be Elite. Especially when said Champ has not even cleared out the division and only has had 1 title defense.
