I agREED. This film was way overrated and it seemed like critics had never watched any astronauts on film before.

It's not a film you watch for the story... It's a film you watch for the film itself

2001 is unique in a class all by itself. Older critics at the time had a hard time reviewing it while younger ones were praising it calling it things it wasn't like 'antiestablishment' 'rebellious' and 'psychedelic vanguard'. Most people couldn't understand what it was about and many people were meeting in bars, cafes and other places just to share their impressions of what it mean. The hippie drug generation totally got it: you don't need to understand it, you just need to dig the trip! So many were watching the film high on LSD over and over. MGM became aware of this demographic and immediately changed the movie posters tagline from the more traditional 'An epic drama of adventure and exploration' to the more 'in' 'the ultimate trip'.

I can relate. I wouldn't call it drivel but I'm not interested in watching it again.

11 Oscars....over movies like L.A. Confidential and the un-nominated Boogie Nights. SMH

I think Terminator 2 is when James Cameron just decided to focus on nice visual effects and set pieces and went totally downhill as a script writer. I mean T2 has some really cringe-worthy dialogue. Titanic's script was nothing special either, pretty by-the-numbers.

I'm kind of with you there. There's great scenes in there, particularly the entrance for the title fight against Cerdan, the intro, the St. Valentine Day's Massacre, but I guess "sluggish" is the right way to put it. Scorsese is probably my favorite director ever and possibly the GOAT, I'm a big Robert De Niro fan (more so the younger De Niro), obviously I love boxing, but something about Raging Bull that just prevents me from loving it like I do other Scorsese movies.

I much prefer watching other Scorsese movies like Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street.

Forrest Gump is a fuckin masterpiece. Easily one of the 10 best movies of all time.

It fucking isn't. It wasn't even the best film that year - that Gump won a best picture Oscar over Pulp Fiction and Shawshank is an absolute joke.

Forrest Gump was a good movie. Pulp Fiction was better and should have won Best Picture IMO.

It was unique at the time and the first of it's kind. But one of the 10 best films of all time? Are you being serious? I'm not heaping scorn on this position, just genuinely asking if you're being serious. Films are very subjective....and I understand that.

For example....I happen to think that Inglorious Basterds isn't just Tarantino's best film....but best film by a looooooong margin. Most people would call that blasphemy as Pulp Fiction is more celebrated.

I have to disagree with those who thought Titanic was overrated. I thought Titanic was a masterpiece. Worthy of all 11 Oscars.

Titanic was typical James Cameron ... Special effects left and right and a storyline written by a precocious 4th grader

Titanic is almost unbearable to watch the first 1.5 hours.... until they hit the iceberg, then its a highly compelling movie to watch.

I think only females, and fags can watch the first 90 mins.

So given that the first half is shit, and the last half is very good, I'd say it's a "decent" movie.

Not worthy of Best Picture. That should have gone to LA Confidential or Good Will Hunting.

Yup, I tend to watch it from the Iceberg. After that point it's a GREAT film and makes up for the first hour. Pure drama, action, suspense...it's done very well.

Agree with Big Lebowski being boring shitty movie. I watched it way back and thought meh. Then heard over the years how it was so great, so I tried again and still nothing there.

Boyhood recieved really great reviews but it was a terrible waste of time and I did not finish it and actually regretted having watched as much as I did.

I'd convinced myself for decades that "Bladerunner" was a classic. Sat down and watched the whole thing not long ago, and it has some classic scenes in it, but it was a slog to really get through. Any scene with Rutger Hauer in it was top notch, but he probably has less then 20 minutes screen time the entire film. Harrison Ford's character had some horrifically bad line readings.
