Most my favorite all time fights are almost all virtuoso, one sided performances. They include: Jones-Hall Jones-Toney Jones-Hill Ali-Williams Ali-Liston 1 Nunn-Tate Locche-Fuji Leonard-Green Taylor-McGirt Duran-Palomino Duran-DeJesus III Benitez-Duran Benitez-Palomino Hopkins-Johnson Hopkins-Tito Floyd-Nduo Floyd-Gatti Floyd-Hatton Whitaker-Pindea Whitaker-Haugen Tyson-Biggs Tyson-Thomas Tyson-Berbick Corrales-Frietas Corrales-Manfredy Jackson-Drayton Foster-Quarry Chavez-Rosario Rosario-Bramble Qawi-Saad 1 & 2 Toney-Barkley Toney-Williams Hagler-Sibson Pryor-Arguello 2 Spinks-Qawi Carlos Oriz-Battling Torres Laguna-M.Ramos Napoles-Cokes 1 Benn-Dewitt LOVE all those fights. Virtually all of them are one sided schoolings and dismantlings. I think my all time favorite wars are Bowe-Holy 1, Tito-Vargas, Pavlik-Taylor 1, and Corrales-Castillo 1.
So do you find yourself saying, "man, this fight is too balanced. Too competitive! I hate all this suspense!"
Way to exaggerate what I said. There's not a real boxing fan alive that doesn't love a war. But the fights I re-watch the most just happen to be the virtuoso performances I listed. I think the last one from that list that I watched was Hopkins-Johnson. Easily B-Hop's best performance. The way he took apart whining ass Glencoffe was a thing of beauty.
Mayweather vs N'Dou and Mayweather vs Corrales are perhaps Floyd's best performances. Trinidad's dismantling of Reid I love as well. Whitaker outboxing Chavez was awesome too, in spite of the bullshit draw. Whitaker vs Mayweather was probably the closest we'd see of Sweet Pea in a war.
I am the opposite. I rarely rewatch one-sided fights. The only exception is if it is a huge upset. For example, Sanders/Wlad. Or Mab/Hamed.
Different strokes for different folks. I could re-watch a masterclass like Floyd-Nduo, or Duran-Palomino every single day.
I simply forgot it, that's all . Four more virtuoso fights I love watching: Sanchez-Gomez Sanchez-Lopez 1 Pedroza-Ford Gomez-Zarate
Probably Trinidad at his absolute BEST. The two left hooks that finished Zulu were so smooth and crisp. Norris vs Brown 2 is another favorite of mine. Excellent boxing exhibition by Norris. Showed what he could do when he kept a cool head. I gotta mention Vargas vs that fag Raul Marquez. I absolutely ENJOYED watching him beat the shit out of that clown.
YESSSSSSSS!!!! Forgot that one! Love that fight! Never get tired of seeing Nando thrash that clown. Along the same lines, I often watch Haugen-Roach. Greg beat the ever living fuck outta that shaking shit talker and I treasure every moment.
In the last few years, my favorite virtuoso performances to watch are: Rigo-Donaire: Just a beautiful, flawless schooling. Kov-Cleverly: Brilliant destruction. Matthysse-Peterson: See above. Ward-Froch: I don't even like Ward, but I'll never get tired of watching him outclass the Farmer.
Rigo vs Donaire has been one of the latest virtuoso exhibitions. Jones vs Toney for me will always be a favorite. Hopkins vs Pavlik as well. Crazy that at 43 he was able to do that to a young guy.
I can't even lie, much as I LOATHE the worthless turd now, Broner's ass whuppin of DeMarco is a pretty nice one sided performance to watch.
Terence Crawford's dismantling of Dulorme was incredible for me, along with his war with Gamboa. And I have to list Loma's performance against Gary Russell. That was really nice. Broner's best performances were definitely at lightweight. He looked like a special talent to me, then.
mY favorite fights are ones like Humberto vs Carbajal 2, Kostya vs Zab, Lewis Holy 2, where my favorite fighter beats mY least favorite fighter. I'd say Douglas vs Tyson and Foreman vs Moorer were the two biggest for the general population with Tyson Holy 2 an honorable mention. The greatest, best fight was Brown vs Pettway, though. It's a candidate for best fight just for the fight, but it's also a candidate for funniest fight, best commentary, and best knockout. No other fight has all that going for it. Some great fights in the 80's of course, but I wasn't as big a fan back then.
For replay value, one-sided fights are often the best because you get to really break down what the winner is doing... I love watching mastery like that
Tua / Ruiz is up there with my favorite one sided boxing fights of all time. I must have seen it a hundred times. Tua was my favorite heavyweight at the time, and Ruiz was my least favorite heavyweight. Ruiz couldn't hug his way out this time. Gatti / Ward has to go down as one of the all time great boxing wars where they were evenly matched. Both guys showed tremendous heart and determination to keep fighting. Douglas / Tyson and Holyfield / Tyson aren't the kind of fights I want to rewatch. Tyson was my boxing hero as a kid in the 80s. I love watching his older fights when he was dominating everyone he fought.
Mayweather jr vs Pacquaio Bradley vs Pacquaio 1 Mayweather jr vs delahoya Holyfield vs Tyson 1 Wright vs Trinidad Mosley vs delahoya 2 Hopkins vs delahoya
Cotto-Torres was one the top 10 fights of my time as a boxing fan. It's become more of a footnote in cottos young career but it was a great fight and he was lucky to make it out. Trinidad-Reid was good too. I don't think Reid got full credit for how well he was doing and how in control he was. I think I had him up 4 or 5 rounds to 1 with a kd at one point. The hook that turned it all around was a beaut. Reid was in position with his gloves up but it just didn't matter. Trinidad-Vargas is still the best "super fight" I've seen as it happened. I watched Sumbu Kalambay vs Francesco del Aquila on YouTube the other day. Good fight. People always say his Ko loss to Nunn was supposed to be some freak occurrence but he got laid out in the same round by the same punch and looked ready to go for the better part of the first 3 rounds.
As far as ass whippins, Quartey-Phillips was a hoot. You have to watch the slow mo replay of Ike literally beating poor Vince pillar to post.
