Delayed because Universal won't take a risk on it unless they get an A-List name, e.g. Vin Diesel was shortlisted before Furious 7 exploded....and they don't feel they can match the successes they had this year.

Basically, they have too mnay other franchises to juggle...

Pacific Rim wasn't a big succes. That is what is holding them back and why they want a big name. The movie was loved by many people. So I think a sequel would have been a bigger succes.

    True...ish.
It wasn't a massive success....in the USA - only made about US$100 mill.
However, elsewhere in markets like China, it made a ton, which pushed it past a global gross of over US$400 mill.

Same case as Terminator Genisys: it flopped in the USA with only $89 million, but made a ton of cash in China. Pacific Rim cost too much and barely made its money back (like Tron Legacy whose sequel plans were shelved too).

Samre with Furious 7, panchy...it grossed US$320 million in China.

Even though it was a massive success anyway, the other markets pushed into the Alltime Top 5 Grossing Movies.
