He moved pretty good back in his prime. Fast Forward to 4:40. I forgot about this fight. It was pretty good. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IYteKW25tHg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Trinidad was a very good boxer. It's just that over the years it became popular to say he was garbage.
I agree he was a pretty good boxer. Tito's issue was he started to rely too much on his power later on his career.
95-97ish would have been the perfect time to make Trinidad-Quartey since Norris wanted nothing to do with Tito at that time.
Trinidad-Norris was supposed to happen that night that Tito fought against Troy Waters in August of 1997. I remember it all well. Trinidad-Norris was announced, and then for some reason Norris didn't sign (I think he wanted the De La Hoya fight). Then Trinidad was signed on to face against Laurent Boudouani for the WBA 154 lb belt that David Reid would later claim. Well Boudouani pulled out with some sort of "injury." Then Waters came in and Trinidad just destroyed him in 1 round. It all was frustrating for the Trinidad fan base because it seemed he just couldn't get fights. Then I remember he tried to sign on with Gary Shaw for a sweet multi fight deal and really looked like Trinidad-Quartey was GOING TO HAPPEN. Then Don King sued and Trinidad's deal with Main Events was off... A real shame. It was CRIMINAL that a lot of those fights didn't get made. One thing I ask, why didn't Trinidad-Mosley happen in 2001???... That fight should have happened BEFORE the middleweight tournament if you ask me. Neither Hopkins nor Joppy were in a hurry to move to 168 at that time due to there being no big names in that division at the time. Again, just a real crime that so many of those fights did not happen. Fuck Don King.
That's crazy, though. That fight was such a NO BRAINER for 2001. I don't even remember it being discussed. Shame.
Trinidad has never a defensive genius but I though he fought a very good fight. In his prime he definitely showed good boxing skills and footwork. I'm sure Barnes connect percentage was pretty low.
Trinidad would have fucked Mosley up. I had endless legendary battles on secondsout over that potential matchup. I was dying for it to happen just to see Mosley get exposed. Big fan of Mosley, mind you, just hated how much he was overrated at the time (and still is).
Does he? I don't think so, maybe the current Pacman but I wouldn't bet on it. Saying that, it's a battle I'm not going to fight as most people will pick Tito just because it's Tito and he's generally overrated on here.
Pac is more overrated than Tito was, especially on this forum. I think it's competitive until Trinidad lands flush... Pac has never faced a young prime welter with that height and reach who could PUNCH that hard and that accurate. To be honest, this fight would never happen because Roach wouldn't allow it. He was an excellent match maker to make Pac look better than he was.
Pacquiao was simply a better fighter than Trinidad. Tito's hooks are bloody vicious, don't get me wrong, but he's so open down the middle in this video. When you take that and combine it with such shitty head movement against a guy like Pacquiao who is so accurate and fast down the middle...I think Manny wins. Let's just put it that way. This video did very little to convince me otherwise.
Tito basically fights exactly like Oscar in the first Mosley fight except slower and easier to hit. Maybe Tito lands something huge and turns the whole thing on its head - very possible - but until or unless he does Mosley would've had a field day
That's a criminal oversimplification. Trinidad is a stalker, yes, but... 1. He's better at it than Oscar is, because that's his style all the time 2. He hits harder than Oscar 3. He has power in both hands 4. He's a more precise puncher [He's basically more formidable, offensively, than Oscar] 5. He's bigger than Oscar 6. His workrate in that type of fight is more consistent than Oscar's 7. He has better stamina than Oscar Look at it this way, whenever Oscar stood his ground and traded with Vargas, he lost those rounds. Whenever Vargas stood his ground and traded with Trinidad, Vargas lost those rounds. Ergo, Trinidad is significantly harder to deal with in that type of style than Oscar is.
He was better pound 4 pound, maybe. But he never showed me he was a better welterweight. Fighting fighters at catch-weights who were either weight drained or old and past their primes. He never met anyone as quick handed as Trinidad, nor as anyone as powerful. The best version of Pac was against Cotto, right???... Even that version of Pac gets fucked up by Trinidad. Tito would have had a field day with short hooks and uppercuts. And unlike Cotto, Pac wouldn't be able to hurt him, nor back him up. Tito ain't Margarito either. I insist, Roach would NEVER allow this match to happen. He knows his boy would get blasted.
LOL what's up with Oba Carr's corner? They looked like they wanted to fight Tito and his corner Fast Forward to 2:25. Panama Lewis Yells Hallelujah WTF? :: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HVofbW9iZkM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
