Seriously. The effect of loaded gloves is far reaching. It obviously matters every time a fighter gets punched, but it also affects the opponent's willingness to fight back, take chances. Body shots obviously hurt more and have a lasting effect. Plus, with heavier hands the fighter with loaded gloves need not expel as much energy to hit hard.

Sidenote: My theory is this is why Margarito and Trinidad gassed so badly in their first fights without it.

In truth, whether Margarito was illegally wrapped or not, he did a lot of good stuff in that fight. The way he worked the body and used uppercuts on a squat target like Cotto was intelligent pressure fighting on his part.

My question is this. If Margarito indeed was wrapping illegally the whole time, why didn't he score knockouts like Hearns or even Trinidad?

It's not like Margarito had one shot power in either hand. He often it guys outta there because he wore them down. I hate defending Margarito. But I do think it's a fair question.

He was gassed in the Hopkins fight from loading up all night. Truth.

    I didn't notice that.

More than anything, it just looked to me like he was beaten up by a bigger, stronger, and more skillful guy round after round. I would attribute it to that before I would to any "special hand wrapping" techniques which you not only seem to helieve aided Tito's power, now your adding that it also aided his STAMINA.

Even looking at Trinidad's post fight interview with Larry Merchant, he was breathing normally. Unlike Vitali after his fight with Cory Sanders where he could barely talk because he was so gassed.

I almost forgot Casamayor- Corrales I. Great fight. People complained about the way it ended because they were on Chico's nuts but the holes punched in his lips was the best part. You don't see that everyday!

I suppose Team Trinidad had the NSAC paid off to keep his special wraps under the radar.

Ever notice how nervous (and guilty) Tito's dad looked during the ring walk? The guy was terrified his son would be found out. In the Hopkins fight, he was finally at peace. But he had to watch his son take a beating so it was bitter-sweet.

Unlike Stafford Attzs, I have no reason to hide from my real name. And I wouldn't refer to others first by their names on an anonymous forum like this because it is a cunt's trick.

Stop. Hammer time. There are some types of cheating where it might make sense to dismiss it and speculate.

However, imo, there are two types of cheating where this is not sensible: PEDs and illegal gloves.

With those types of cheating you are doing things that directly affect your speed and power. Whenever you are affecting speed and/or power, you are changing integral aspects of the sport. No one knows or can know how much these unfair advantages ultimately affected the result. Therefore, the victim of these types of cheating deserve EVERY benefit of the doubt.

Even ignoring speed and power, they can affect the mindset and confidence of the cheater. The mental aspect matters, as well.

All I'm saying is that we cannot know 100% for sure that Margarito was cheating his whole career. I'm not saying he wasn't, just that he was never caught nor was there any suspicion prior that he was.

He may have been. But I just find it strange that no trainer would have caught on to him loading his wraps with pieces of plaster all these years. It's just odd to me.

Agreed, especially in higher profile fights when more is on the line. Fighters try to get every advantage they can right from the start of the negotations. Glove type, size of ring, venue, referee etc. If a trainer can find any excuse to have an opponent re-wrap their tape/gloves or use a different color shoe laces they usually will. It's not same as fighting some 2-9 scrub in Tijuana where they might look the other way if they see the outline of an anvil bulging through the gloves.
