Keith Earls try, yeah great, but 5 mins ago Ireland got lucky in their own corner when the Romanians infringed just metres short of the Irish line.

Interesting to see the big improvement of the 'minnows' this time around. Once upon a time you'd expect Ireland to put about 100 points past sides like Romania, but that has roughly halved this time around.

I think i remember Gavin Hastings scoring 100 points in a world cup game once

*edit err, not quite: he scored 44. New Zealand scored 145 in that world cup, that'll be the other half-memory i was conflating with the first half memory

It was a very close game in the first half, Ireland were a couple of Romanian mistakes away from being in a much tighter affair.

As the Romanians tired, Ireland got their tail up, introduced their big names and its no coincidence that Ireland scored more after the binning than they did in the entire first half.

    Next Italy....a far sterner test.

Ah'll have a point of whit Ye're having.

Two entertaining games there aftae the horror show o' Oz vs Uruguay.

MTF - Romania have a v prood rugby history... it wiz the fall o' Ceausescu that coincided wi' the fall o' Romania rugby's fortunes. Ba rights, Ah think Romania shouldae been aheid o' Italy in joining the 6 Nations, like.

Yeah i remember having an old 1991 world cup book that i pinched off my grampa as a kid and it spoke quite highly both of Romania and Argentina going into the tournament.

Romania came to Ireland in 1993 on a rain-soaked day and lost 25-0 but Ireland only scored 1 try.

Italy were fucking nowhere in 1993.

You cannae win the WC from 3rd place in the group. Robshaw has form but this time is different and unforgivable. He's wasn't brave he was stupid.

Robshaw looks stupid noo because England failed to execute the lineoot strategy properly, which they'd been excellent in up until that point (As Irish rightly wrote), and Wales played one o' the best, agressive, defensive responses Ah've seen in a long, long time.

Aye, 3 points is the cool headed decision but, as well as Farrell wiz kicking, it wiz a tough kick and there wiz no guarantee he'd boot it o'er, like.

England went fer glory and the win and were kept oot ba a determined Welsh ootfit - England lost the game from the 50 minute mark and no just in the last few minutes imo.

Excellent line out does not equal a try & Teams defend line outs that deep all the bloody time

It was the wrong call and that is not hindsight either. I couldn't believe my eyes when they kicked for the corner. I knew the game was up, as did everyone else watching.

Japan were on the cusp of the greatest upset of all time. They had nought to lose and everything to gain by taking the chance. England, supposed contenders to win the comp, needed three points to tie and take the group to respective games against Aus (knowing that Wales have loads of injuries and a dreadful record against Aus). Instead they tried to copy 'Japan'

I said it before and stand by it. The decision was imbecilic.

So, in this instance, Ye think it shouldae been a case o'; 'Turning Japanese, Ah think they're turning Japanese, Ah really dinnae think so!'?
