Damn. It seems like EVERY great is picking the Ginger.

Do any of the greats respect Miggy?

BTW - kinda funny, Duran said Floyd would be a nobody in his era, yet called Canelo the future of boxing...

Perhaps he missed Floyd toying with Ginger...

For what it's worth, Amir Khan picks Canelo because of the "youth, power, and speed." I'm not so sure I see a speed advantage for Canelo here. Last I checked, Canelo's hand speed was not blinding by any means.

Duran is a notorious hater of African American fighters, with Olympic medal backgrounds, that are rated P4P #1, get the most exposure and make the most money in the sport....cough....cough...Sugar Ray Leonard. No Surprise here.

    It's faster than Cotto's though.

These "legends" can never be trusted to give objective opinions on anything. In most cases, they are friends with this manager or that one, or this promoter, and they basically do the guy a favor.

Anyway....anyone in their right mind would pick Canelo in this fight. It has nothing to do with the Greats having no respect for Cotto.

Canelo has all of the advantages coming into this one:

    Youth
    Chin
    Size
Far less wear and tear from wars and beatdowns

Considering it's likely to turn into a firefight these advantages are far more important than Cotto's experience advantage.

Duran doesn't hate blacks at all. Most Panamanians ARE black for Christ sake, so Duran has African blood in him somewhere. Duran and Leonard are currently good friends. Duran is also very good friends with Tyson.

Duran just hates Floyd, probably because Floyd is a hateful human being.

    Cool. lol

I wasn't really suggesting that Duran was a racist just saying that Duran hadn't liked Leonard initially for similar reasons, the dude was getting too much attention and money and fame - so he needed pulling down a peg or too.

As for most Panamanians being black....not that it's important, but just googled it to see whether or not you were talking out of your ass:

    Panama Ethnic groups :

    65% Mestizo
    12.3% Native American
    9.2% Afro-Panamanian
    6.8% Mulatto
    6.7% White

In what definition is 9.2%, most? Even if you were to add Mulatto, it's still only 16%.

I'm not convinced. Don't get me wrong, I can see Canelo beating old Cotto but I doubt it will be due to any speed. I think Cotto holds the hand speed advantage, honestly. Canelo does have the other advantages, though like youth and power. Skill and experience go to Cotto.

I think Canelo has better handspeed than Cotto. Cotto's handspeed has NEVER been anything impressive. However, Cotto has quicker, more fluid feet than Canelo.

If Canelo were More CONSISTENT, as Opposed to Be a Notorious SPURT Fighter, Those Advantages Would Lead to Cotto's Demise...Problem Is, Cotto WILL Be Putting Hands on Canelo During his Respites...

SOMETHING's Gotta Give Here; Either Cotto's Gonna Beat a Bigger, Stronger, Taller, Younger Man OR Canelo Will Exhibit GREATLY Improved Stamina...

When Duran was asked who would win a rematch, he quit the interview.

If you go out to the rural areas and rain forests in countries like that they're all a bunch of block headed, flat assed Mexicans, but Panama City seems to be at least 1/3 black. I don't how they identify "black" though.
