Thomas Hearns Mike McCallum Floyd Mayweather Felix Trinidad Sugar Ray Leonard Terry Norris Winky Wright John Mugabi I deliberately chose fighters that were considered among the best ever at that weight but who have also never fought anyone else on the list (and lost to them) at that weight and in their primes (hence no Curry, Jackson, De La Hoya, Canelo or Duran) First round is a round robin to determine seeding, then quarter finals, semi finals, Final and winner. You don't have to do the round robin in detail, just give the seedings going into the playoff rounds. I hope this isn't too much work for you guys, but I thought we' have some fun. How do you see it playing out? Me: Round Robin Produces the following Quarter finals based on seedings: Q1 Hearns vs Mugabi Q2 McCallum vs Wright Q3 Leonard vs Norris Q4 Mayweather vs Trinidad S1 Hearns vs Mayweather S2 Leonard vs McCallum F Hearns vs McCallum Winner McCallum
Hearns vs Mugabi Q2 McCallum vs Wright Q3 Leonard vs Norris Q4 Mayweather vs Trinidad S1 Hearns vs Mayweather S2 Leonard vs McCallum F Hearns vs Leonard
In reality, Ray Robinson was the best junior middle of all time. The division simply didn't exist in his time. Robinson was the ideal junior middleweight. He was a very big welterweight, yet a bit small for middle. He only weighed 155 when he destroyed Lamotta in their 4th fight. He'd be a junior middleweight today.
Hearns vs Mugabi- Hearns McCallum vs Wright- McCallum Leonard vs Norris- Leonard Mayweather vs Trinidad- Trinidad Semis Hearns vs Trinidad- Hearns Leonard vs McCallum- Leonard Final Hearns vs Leonard- Hearns Winner- Thomas Hearns
REED Isn't Soooooooo Sure Leonard Beats Hearns @ '54...Sure, Ray was BETTER @ '47 (Slightly), but it's NOT as if he Had Hearns' # or Anything... REED Leans Towards Hearns in this Tournament... REED:fightme:
Hearns will win this....UNLESS he has to face McCallum then he might be in trouble...if it ends up being Leonard vs. McCallum...then LEONARD...
I could see it. But let's not forget, Leonard was still plenty bad ass at 154. Think about it, prime Leonard moved up to 154 and beat Kalule (who at the time was the best junior middle in the world) as a TUNE-UP for Hearns. Think about it, moved up and beat the best junior middle as a tune-up. That's how good Leonard was. But yeah, it'd be between Leonard and Hearns. McCallum wouldn't beat either one at 154.
Word, I see it the same way. I'm not sure Leonard beats Hearns more than 4 times out of 10 at 147lbs, let alone 154lbs. Leonard did not have Hearns' number, but they would always be competitive. At 154lbs I lean towards Hearns over Leonard. I think McCallum stops Hearns though.
Floyd has ZERO business on that list. He was FAAARRRRR from being great at 154. I'd take Vargas over Floyd at 154.
I knew I'd get heat for including him, and with good cause for Floyd is a small Jnr Middleweight....but the fact is that Mayweather is undefeated at that weight and has beaten Saul Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya at Jnr Middle. I thought about Vargas but didn't include him because after getting beaten up and stopped by Trinidad he'd have no realistic shot at winning the tournament. Same reasons for excluding Curry and the rest. Ya feel me?
Floyd Mayweather Would Have NO Realistic Shot of Actually WINNING this Tournament, Brother Sly:nono:... It Would Take a BETTER Version of Floyd than we've EVER Seen, to Fathom him BEATING Hearns, Ray Leonard or McCallum....Hell, If You Drew Up THE Perfect Style to BEAT Floyd, it'd Be Tommy Hearns.... REED:mj:
I hear you. I don't see Floyd winning either...but at least Floyd's unbeaten at that weight...so he deserves a place in the tournament. We all saw Vargas beaten up in his prime at that weight, twice (thrice if you include the Wright fight). Since Floyd hasn't lost yet and he fought decent fighters at that weight, it's fair to include him. I mean..which fighter do you think I should put in his place? Ayub Kalule?
