I don'T think it,s that far fetched. Sure he's not as good as either were at 25, but don't think the gap is that wide. Problem is, I feel that Canelo ain't the type of fighter that will improve with the years, he's probably as good as he will ever be.
There's well over 100 fighters in history who were better at 24-25 than Canelo. That's no exaggeration at all.

When Mayweather was 25 he had already defeated Corrales and Castillo and Pacquio destroyed heavy favourite Barrera. Both were high up on P4P lists although Manny wasn't as well known to western audiences. Canelo doesn't have a victory even close to those and beating Cotto won't do it either. It doesn't matter though, it's just a promoter talking out of his ass pumping up his fighter's status. If somebody without an agenda made that statement it would be a different story.
word. Oscar always uses hyperbole like that with his fighters. Not too long ago he said he was convinced Lemieux would KO GGG.

Damn, I forgot how young they were in these fights. Then indeed, they were far superior than Canelo is right now. But nonetheless, Oscar's a promoter now, so it's not too surprising to hear him sprue some bullshit
