Before anybody says it, do NOT mention Vitaly - Lennox. It has been done to death and this thread has no agenda in that sense.

Cuts can happen in different ways, sometimes from good punching (such as Hagler - Minter or Hearns - Hagler) whereas sometimes they are caused quickly or almost accidentally.

Because of that, some see winning on cuts as 'less legit' than a KO or clear decision.

I was wondering, have there been fights where cuts had decided the fight, so that the guy who was losing it has pulled it out because of cuts?

I think in most examples the consensus has been that the guy who has won on cuts would have won it anyway. Can you name contrary examples?

Not sure what would have happened in Martinez-Pavlik if Sergio hadn't managed to cut Pavlik in the 9th. It was a very close fight, I had it 76-75 for Pavlik going into the 9th, with Pavlik scoring that KD. After Martinez cut Pavlik, he just kicked his ass.

    Final scorecards were 115-111, 116-111, and 115-112.

This is more of a "I have no idea who would have won" as opposed to "Pavlik would have won if not for the cut". It was very close and competitive.

Pavlik-Martinez is a good example. Pavlik had turned the tide, and SEEMED to be headed towards a late stoppage. Then Martinez sliced him open, and after that swept the rest of the fight.

Another that comes to mind is O'Grady-Watt. Sean O'Grady was beating Watt handily until a BUTT cut him open, and eventually ended the fight with O'Grady ahead.

Sorry man, but Lewis-Vitali comes to mind.

Even though by the time the fight was stopped, Lennox was in the drivers seat, prior to that cut, Vitali was getting to Lennox.

You think Drago would have ended Rocky's life had it not been for that cut?

How about the first Casamayor-Corrales fight? Casa handled business early but Corrales was coming on when the cuts forced the stoppage.

    word.

I maintain that Vitali would have won had it not been for the cut.

Pacquiao-Morales 1. I think Pac would have got to him eventually.

Gatti-Mannfredy. Not saying he would have won, but Gatti was kinda coming on at the time of the stoppage

Yeah, Rosado was schooling that skill-less bum til the cut.

Quillin is horrible. Jacobs can beat him if he boxes smart.
