Yep. It wouldn't sell even 50% of Cotto-Canelo, let alone Pac-Floyd. The only thing they could do is one of those showcards cards featuring both fighters and match Ward with a guy who has a worse chin than Augie Sanchez. Make it appear that Ward is KO artist.
what other six guys are even worth putting in such a tourney? only guys who even come to mind are stevenson, fonfara and beterbiev are all with haymon and the rest of them bums have already been destroyed by kovalev
Yeah, He's the one that made Kovalev pulls out of the purse bid. That's what's pathetic with some of you. You let your emotions cloud your judgement, and don't care about the facts. Not defending Stevenson, as he's career is turning into a disaster, but what Kovalev did is closer to a duck job than what Stevenson did. But at least he's giving us decent fights, contrarily to Stevenson who's seems to be on a mission to get the world rid of garbage man
The "Rush" is Fewer and FEWER Give a Flying Fuck about Andre Ward's Career, as Each Year Passes... Fight Kovalev @ '75, GGG @ Whatever Catchweight Golovkin Demands Or RETIRE...Those are Wards ONLY Options @ this Point... REED:hammert:
The FACT Is, Kovalev Fought IN Canada on SEVERAL Adonis Stevenson Undercards, in Hopes of Unifying w/Him... Kovalev CLEARLY Wanted the Fight, as Did HBO...Next Thing we Know, Stevenson Signs w/Al Haymon and Becomes a Showtime Fighter, Exclusively:wack:... You've ALWAYS had a Soft Spot for your Canadian Hero, Adonis, but it's OBVIOUS he DUCKED Sergey Kovalev...The TRUTH Must Hurt... REED:hammert:
No, He went with Haymon because they were offering him a lot more money than HBO. Which was a perfectly comprehensible decision. Anybody who was in his situation would have done the same. And earlier this year, Kovalev pulled out of the purse bid, while Stevenson was willing to go ahead with it. THis was a much clearer case of ducking. Your other post is right on though. Fuck Stevenson,He seems happy enough to just fight bums. Supposedly his next fight is in China. I dont expect a credible opponent.
X is misrepresenting Ward's point. Vigil Hunter said he wanted Ward to have a year at 175 to settle into the division. That's why they did the three fight contract with HBO with the third fight neing the Kovalev fight this time next year. Hunter also shot down the "Ward fought at light heavy in the Olympics" argument. He said (which is true because I remember this at the time) that Ward fought at light heavy as an ammy because he and Dirrell were friends and didn't want to compete for the same spot. He said Ward would eat and drink just to make the 170 minimum when he was an ammy...so he never had to cut weight. He said Ward fighting at 175 is basically like Floyd fighting at 147 which is relatively close to his walk around weight. I doubt most light heavyweights walk around at 180 between fights including Kovalev. That's the full context of the point Ward and team were making. Now is the right time for him to move to 175 rather than stick around at 168. he wants to Kovalev fight, it's basically made. The contracts are signed. Cats are acting like he pulled a stevenson.
If stevenson's people win the purse bid, the fight would be on a PBC network that Kov can't fight on because he's signed to HBO.
That's not what Duva said. She shaid she pulled out of the purse bid, because it was made too far in advance, and because of the fluctuations in currency, she couldnt make realistic revenu prediction. Which is a pathetic excuse since anyone with the most basic knowledge in finance knows that you can get a forward exchange contract if you don't want to gamble with currency fluctuation. ANyways, I don't think that either of them is ducking the other. Only that politics is getting in the way of the fight. But meanwhile, Kovalev is proving himself to be a true champion, while Stevenson is ducking Pascal (yes, he is, as sad as it sounds) and fighting cans Edit: I Re-read the article, and she also said the network thing, which still doesn't make her look any better.
If Ward walked around at 170 when he fought at 178, then why did he look so shitty when he cut down to 160 as a pro? That makes no sense. If Floyd walks around at 147, then why would he need to have an IV to hydrate after making weight? I don't think Ward needs to fight Kovalev until he's ready. A couple more fights at 175 before doing that makes sense. So far, he's just had one fight at like 171. Kovalev is a stud. Maybe p4p #1, and likely p4p #1 puncher. He's got some flaws and I would lean Ward, but Ward has other options that make more sense. Like I said above, Kovalev vs Ward should be a superfight.
The fact is the fight can't be made because of networks but HBO doesn't want to be held up as the problem and the idea that one guy is stalling or ducking and can be blamed is more appealing to fans than just accepting it's not going to happen. Networks need to work out some procedure for when they have the top 2 guys in a division. What they've been doing is like Las Vegas banning people from the casinos they're not staying at. It's short sighted and bad for business overall.
That's pretty much what i've said. I never said that kov ducked Stevenson per se. Only that its absolutely hypocritical to claim Stevenson ducked him while absolving Kovalev of any blame. The fight not happening is a result of the ridiculous political games HBO is playing
Why blame HBO and not PBC? They're both doing the same thing by not allowing their fighters to appear on the other show. PBC seems to have strategically signed certain fighters to make sure HBO couldn't make certain fights.
I tought it was HBO who instigated this policy. If it's not the case, well yes, they are both to blame.
Well, then who's fault is it ??? Why are you all blaming Stevenson (don'T get me wrong, you can throw a lot of blame at him for not fighting better opponent, especially Pascall, whom he ducked) if it's Duva/HBO who ducked out of the 50/50 purse bid because they didn't thought the fights was worth the $$$ PBC was willing to put down.
Because in that case, the fight would have went to whomever was willing to put out the most $$$$. PBC was willing, HBO, not.
Great fight. I only see one outcome though: closely contested fight with a semi controversial decision ( in other words, fans would be split 50-50 over who won the fight , much like Leonard Hagler)...and the win going to Kovalev because he's the new star .
Kovalev via late rounds stoppage. I just think he's too powerful for Ward who I can't see getting any better and Kovalev is active and at his best. Best fight of the year BAR NONE.
I've always maintained that Kovalev-Ward is a better fight than GGG vs Canelo even though both are mega fights.
I'd be a little more excited about that because it'd probably be a bigger event and more high-action fight. Kov-ward is a better pure match up tho
