of course Spence has skills...and I think he will fucking EMBARRASS Thurman right now...but I want to see it before picking him over Canelo who is NOT GREAT...but better than anyone at 147...

[h=2]Canelo 160.2 lbs. at seven-day weigh-in[/h]Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez complied Saturday with the WBC’s seven day weigh-in rule in advance of his world middleweight championship mega-fight against Miguel Cotto this Saturday at The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Canelo, who weighed 160.2 pounds, will travel to Las Vegas with his team this coming Monday.

This is the problem I have with the Reynoso's and Canelo. To their credit, they did a good job of teaching the Ginger how to fight and how to throw nice, crisp combos.

But the feeling I get is that these guys aren't too big on actual strategy. Seems like they have Canelo throwing these combos just for the sake of throwing them.

Roach, much as I can't stand his shit talking ass, can definitely implement a strategy better than the Reynoso's, and Cotto usually has more purpose behind his combos than Nelo.

I'm STILL picking Canelo... but I dunno. I'm thinking about this fight more and more. I'm definitely now picturing Cotto with a better chance than I did just a few weeks ago.

MAYBE Miggy does have enough left to outclass Ging. We'll see, but I feel it's too late in the game to change my pick now.

I'll stick to my guns and pick Alvarez by late stoppage.

Cotto is going to beat the faster Canelo to the punch all night......his left hook will have a more worsening effect on Canelo than the Ginger will have on Cotto...by round 3-4 Canelo face will be a bleeding mess.....

Problem I have with that is we have yet to see Canelo's face busted up or him bleeding everywhere. Miggy, we KNOW busts up and cuts easily.

My pick is ALLLLLL based on mileage, trust me. As I've said a million times before, circa 07 Cotto in his physical prime beats the shit outta Canelo.

The first Marg fight changed EVERYTHING in terms of Cotto's face being vulnerable to busting up.

Early rounds will tell us a lot though. If Cotto can get off to a fast start and build a lead, his changes greatly increase. Canelo can AFFORD to drop the early rounds, and start hurtin Cotto mid-fight. Cotto can't afford to fall behind early.

What'll be really interesting is if Cotto can SERIOUSLY hurt Canelo. If he can establish his skills, and HURT Canelo, at that point I think the Ginger's in a lot of trouble.

I can't fucking WAIT til next week!!!

Not sure why they didn't disclose Cotto's 7-day weight. If I had to make a guess, I'd say Mig is probably at like 157-158 right now.

In any case, Canelo shouldn't have any issue shedding those 5 pounds by Friday. GGG was 5 pounds away the week before the Lemieux fight and made weight easily.

He is a little stocky midget, but he has about a inch on Cotto. Canelo's officially listed at 5'9, but I think he's closer to 5'8.

Cotto is always listed at 5'7, and that seems legit.

Looking ahead though, there's no way Canelo's little short ass is getting past Golov's jab. It'd be the Lemieux fight all over again. And Canelo is SHORTER than Lemieux.

Height isn't the only factor in getting past jabs. Lemieux is just a brawler, Canelo has more dimensions.

And who has shown those dimensions against? Angulo and Kirkland? He sure as fuck didn't show those dimensions against Floyd, Trout, and Lara.

Are you suggesting that Canelo is as limited as Lemieux?

Hmmmmm....Even though Canelo is a better technician than Lemieux, it's not like he has a lot of elements to his game.

His best win is over Lara, and even in that fight, he didn't show a whole lot as far as how he'd be able to successfully deal with a jab. His feet are a little slow when attempting to cut the ring and he doesn't move his head a lot. He'd be marginally more competitive with Triple G than Lemieux but there wouldn't be much of a difference as far as how the fight looks.

But maybe he shows us something against Cotto we've never seen before. Unlikely, but we shall see.

No. But I'm suggesting he won't fare much better than Lemieux did.

Lemieux won zero rounds and got stopped in 8. Maybe Canelo wins 1 round (2 at best) and gets stopped in 10.

    Well I've put a $100 on Cotto at +260 so here's hoping.

I do think Cotto is more skilled than Ginger and just have a feeling that his experience plus rejuvenation under Roach will give him at least a 50-50 shot, so at +260 it's a easy bet.

Fair enough. Who, in your opinion, 160lbs and under (leave Floyd out since he's retired) has the best chance of beating GGG?

In order for Golov to lose, he'd have to fight Ward, which ain't happening now.

Between 154-160 there's nobody with a realistic chance of beating him at the present time. In a few years, he probably starts to fade and maybe an elite guy comes along who can pull it off. But as of now he's still in his prime and simply on a higher level than any middleweight or junior middleweight in the world.

And he's only had a 7 week training camp. Seems he's making weight comfortably which is obviously a plus for the old guy.

I give Quillin a decent shot at GGG since he seems to have a solid chin and he can punch with both hands. I wouldn't pick him though because he's not too hard to hit. Lee and Jacobs seem to chinny and no one at 154 is that compelling.

Quillin was dropped by Lee, and hurt by Gabe Rosado. His chin is not solid.

And power wise, Lemieux is a bigger puncher than Quillin. He nailed GGG with several clean hooks, and Golov didn't blink.

Golov would dispatch of Quillin in 5 rounds stops.

Canelo/Cotto both give GGG a better fighter than bum ass Quillin would.

Don't hate him. Just don't think he's quality. He has NOTHING to offer Golov.

Has Quillin EVER looked impressive though? The highlight of his career is beating up the corpse that used to be Winky Wright.
