"Yeah in an MMA fight. That's not insulting. She never said she would beat him in boxing. " It is insulting. Now if she said she could beat him in Judo, that wouldn't be insulting. But MMA is just a fight, period, utilizing any skill to defeat an opponent. To suggest she could beat the top male boxer in a straight fight is criminal stupidity. "No she didnt. She said that she would have dedicate herself to boxing and only boxing to ever compete with Laila in a boxing ring. She said she would whup her ass in MMA tho. And she would. " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MjXMlO39fE She said she could beat them all at boxing. "never once did she suggest that boxing skills dont translate to MMA. Her coach is a boxing coach for crying out loud. So what if she said she has better striking than Holm. She also praised holm all the time and her boxing accomplishment. But you dont become great by saying other people are better than you." What a rambling response to my point. She said quite clearly that she's a better MMA Striker than Holm, which considering Ronda doesn't kick, suggests that boxing wont translate to effective punch striking in the Octagon. That's ignorance and arrogance mixed up. "well if some boxing fans are, and no disrespect here, ignorant on the facts as you are, i guess i can understand." back at ya bro!
Again, MMA is not just a fight. It has rules. You cant punch in the back of the head, you cant kick when person is on the ground, you cant pull hair or eye poke or pull hair, bend fingers or toes, punch the spine, grab the fence, grab the shorts, etc. Many things that a boxer would probably try to instinctively do. So no, it's not just a fight. Judo is a big weapon in MMA. IF SHE DEDICATED HERSELF TO THE SPORT AND WITH TIME. She is very clear on that. That means no more MMA, just boxing. She also knees and elbows and strikes can inlcude Ground and pound. That being said. She is in a fight with the girl. Who cares if she says she is better than her?
You accused me of parroting when you THOUGHT some of the words I used to make my argument were along the lines of what you previously posted, which I think is a stretch anyways. I worded it very differently and I cannot see the parroting at all, yet you thinking so mighty high of yourself is anybody who seems to think something similar to yourself is parroting you. So again tell me how was I being the dick in that case?
So based on this ridiculous rationale, Couture's win over Toney is a victory for wrestling over boxing. I don't buy it. Holm beat Rousey because she was a better mixed martial artist. She was good enough at several disciplines to beat Rousey. As a boxing fan for 43 years and a guy that holds boxing in higher regard than any other combat sport, it baffles me when boxing fans feel threatened by MMA which simply incorporates boxing.
Ronda did get a lot of hype and she did play into it especially towards the end of her undefeated streak. Be that as it may, I hold Dana White responsible for it moreso than her. Afterall, even before Ronda came to the forefront, he was always taunting the boxing community with comments of MMA being "superior" to boxing and so on and so on. Guarantee you whomever is the next big thing after Ronda, it will be the same shit. He'll be doing the typical Dana White thing.
A boxer trained in MMA for few months, turned pro 2 years ago, and kicked the shit out of the "phenom" grappler. The fact the boxer was body slamming and karate kicking the martial artist around suggest that all this stuff isn't as unique and difficult to master as MMA fans seem to believe. If more boxers had the financial incentive to crossover they'd generally dominate.
BTW, there are several pro boxers past and present in MMA that havent done shit. So it's not that boxing would do well in MMA. It has nothing to do with that. It's about the Talent, it's about the heart, it's about the coaching.
Yeah man it's less the art, more the athlete. Holm showed it all....boxing, kickboxing, grappling, you name it, and it was all effective in various ways against Rousey.
Take away the Oblique Kicks, Take away the knowledge of where to keep your hands during the clinch, take away the elbows, take away the ability to nullify the the armbar and just leave nothing but the boxing aspect of the fight, She would have lost. It was a combination of skills. It was her MIXED MARTIAL ARTS ability that won her that fight.
No one is saying otherwise. But her boxing background showed in the fight: controlling the distance, jabbing, lead lefts, ducking and weaving, counterpunching. Put it this way....her boxing acumen proved more useful than Rousey's Judo in that fight.
This fight was a victory for boxing. If you follow MMA, you'll see victories for boxing along with other martial arts. Royce Gracie winning the early UFC events was a victory for Brazilian jiu jitsu. Dan Severn and Don Frye demonstrated the power of wrestling. Bas Rutten showed the world how to defeat other fighting styles with kickboxing. Muay Thai masters like Anderson Silva won at the highest level with their style of kickboxing. Lyoto Machida found a way to make karate work at the highest level of the sport. Holly Holm is the new champion. She earned it. There will always be great boxers and kickboxers who succeed in MMA. There will also always be wrestlers like Chris Weidman and jiu jitsu specialists like Fabricio Werdum who succeed in MMA.
She was...and long may she reign. She's a genuinely nice humble girl and I suspect that she'll stay that way. A monster in the ring, but nice otherwise. That one elbow she landed on Ronda (which I think is responsible for the split lip) was vicious! Ronda showed heart though I must say...because Holly was punishing her.
Her lead lefts were great, but if she had poor grappling defense and got subbed on that first grapple exchange.....well her hands don't mean shit at that point. Point is, her grapple defense more than anything gave her the opportunity to let her hands and legs and elbows go in Rd 2. If she'd been subbed (and it was close) in Rd 1, well the hand skills are meaningless. Her strikes won the fight, but her grappling gave her that opportunity to do so.
Ironically, we already know who is going to be the next big thing after Ronda since he was the next big thing before her--Jon Jones.

They hugged after the fight and exchanged words. How do we know Ronda didn't say good job then? Hilarious, nit-picky shit.
Nah it ain't, it's called "class". After the shit talking, at least Rousey can publicly congratulate her conquerer. In her only message to fans, surely a cursory congratulations at least was in order.
