I think Canelo sincerely believes he can beat GGG and will want to fight him next to please his fans, but Oscar & Sulaiman will talk him out of that stupid idea.

So now there's TWO superfights to be made in 2016... Golov-Nelo and Ward-Kov.

    Rigo-Loma has lost luster.

Cotto did OK but Canelo really was a massive unit.

    GGG destroys Canelo.

Nothing really wrong with that. He shouldn't be in the sport if he doesn't. I don't think he particularly relishes that fight though, and guaranteed his team doesn't want it all.

GGG would not destroy Canelo. like most phonetap would pick GGG but not in a cakewalk. It would be a competitive and entertaining fight to watch...

For example an undeserved "middleweight" championship?

Props to Cotto for being a great warrior and having a great career.

But this was the night for Canelo. Great win for his career.

    Bring on GGG! :fightme:

EVERY advantage Canelo had over Cotto tonight goes out the window against Golov. Height, reach, size, power, strength... it ALL goes out the window.

Yeah pretty much all he has on his side is the money and politics. A big reason this fight will not only be hard to make, but every conceivable advantage will be negotiated in ginger's favor.

I had the same score and surprised the scores were so wide. Thing is though...in nearly every round Canelo was controlling the fight and landing the harder punches and avoiding more punches....but I thought that Cotto's busier spurts would sway the judges and make it a closer fight.

Boxing fans and analysts alike would say that Canelo has no chance against GGG after not being able to put Cotto away...and being reasonably competitive with him.

    The Sly one disagrees!

I make GGG the favourite in that fight but I make Canelo a LIVE underdog (like Jim Lampley said).

People are sleeping on Canelo's toughness, intelligence and Defense. he gives GGG a very hard fight and LIKELY lasts the distance at the very least.

Oscar is his promoter and will tell him, 'Look, Canelo, I had a dream too of becoming the undisputed middleweight champion by facing the older champ. I was wrong. I should have never taken that fight. I should have done other fights. Learn from my mistake. DON'T DO IT!"

Sulaiman, "We will not strip you of your belt champ! Fight someone else! We can excuse you with the media. After all tu eres mexicano!"

I will eat crow though....for predicting a TKO for Canelo. Cotto proved to be much tougher than I gave him credit for.

However, as I said before...Cotto had no chance of every stopping Canelo. I think we can all agree now that Canelo has a strong chin.

    BASED ON WHAT?

The way he handled Gaele, M.A. Rubio, and Stephens?

Canelo-GGG will be a great fight.

True. Obviously ggg is a different and greater challenge. And canelo probably loses. And the fight could end up looking a lot like the lemeux fight. On the other hand, Canelo would certainly be the best and most proven guy ggg has ever faced.

Yeah. I was shocked how many people picked Cotto by stoppage. I was pretty confident in Canelo but I for damn sure knew Cotto wouldn't dent him. Not early, not late, not at all.

If he goes 12 rounds with GGG he will need plastic surgery after the fight.

word. I've been saying this for years. the man has skills. great balance and positioning. Great understanding of distance.

Trust me...it's NOT and easy fight for GGG. Its one of those things (that often happens in boxing) where GGG looks more impressive...but when they meet head to head, Canelo will give him a great many problems.

    THANK YOU!

You know the game. Anyone who thinks GGG will just walk through Canelo...doesn't understand what they are looking at.

It was a DECENT fight. I dunno about damn good. Lacked the drama and sustained action to be damn good.

Same. Outside of a freakish body shot I didn't see how that was possible and as much as I joke about Canelo's size advantage even I didn't think the disparity would be that large. Alvarez could have gone full blown Mayora tonight and not been in danger of getting stopped.

    word.

People still don't realize that a fighter can look far more formidable and dangerous than another....but in a head to head with that other...it's a very tough fight.

Canelo has the attributes necessary to finally test GGG.
