Was Edward Norton a cunt while making Hulk?

It still continues to be the stuff of Hollywood legend why Edward Norton did not reprised the role of Bruce Banner in 'The Avengers'. At first there was just the cold announcement that Norton will not be back to reprise the role of Bruce Banner/Hulk. Then Marvel's spokesperson who basically said he was fired and basted the actor for behaving like a diva on the set and not being a team player. That was followed by Norton's rep. who trashed Marvel for badmouthing his client and spreading lies. Norton himself later politely thanked Marvel for the opportunity of letting him work for them. Speculation about salaries negotiations, and Downey's demands circulated on the media. Then last year Norton talked on the subject again and basically stated that he didn't wanted to be attached to a franchise in order to do those artsy little films like 'Moonrise Kingdom' & 'Birdman'. While that sounds good, the truth is Mark Ruffalo has been able to do also little artsy films between Marvel films. Norton has been basically doing supporting roles after he did 'The Incredible Hulk'. And honestly that Marvel film is the highest grossing film Norton has starred in.

Some studio insiders blame the failure of 'The Incredible Hulk' on Norton as he kept making changes in the script and the constant fights with the director, writer and producer. Marvel wanted a faithful adaptation of the comicbook. Norton wanted a reprise of Ang Lee's psychological 'Hulk' combined with a reboot of the 70's tv series of Bill Bixby. Director Louis Letterrier was reportedly intimidated by Norton (the biggest star he had directed was Jason Statham whom he basically made a star in 'The Transporter') and allowed him to get his way when arguments arised. At the end, Norton's version prevailed over what Marvel wanted. And once the film was released and its numbers did not improved over Ang Lee's previous version, Marvel decided they didn't wanted to deal with Norton again to mess with their upcoming Avengers movie. That plus now Robert Downey Jr was a huge star thanks to 'Iron-Man' and, most important, he was a good team player.

Ruffalo did a better Bruce Banner anyway.

I agree, but for continuity sake I wanted Norton or Bana for 'The Avengers'. I hate when an actor is replaced in a sequel.

  4. word.

That stuff bugs the shit out of me. Same thing with "War Machine"...no knock on Don Cheadle but I wish Terence Howard continued...

Yeah, that still bugs me. I will not mind, though, if they pull a 'George Lucas' and inserted Don Cheadle on every scene Howard was in a 'special edition' of Iron-Man.

  9. Nah...Terence Howard was the fuckin' man in that role: "Next Time Baby!" Cheadle pales (not literally though) in comparison.

Moonrise Kingdom is a better movie than the Avengers anyway, so it all worked out well

    Cheadle is better than Howard.

  16. Nah! Not in that role at least.

Robert De Niro is better than Christopher Reeve....but not as Superman.

Terrance Howard can be decent in some movies, but for the most part he's simply not elite. He can also be shit in a lot of movies.

Well to be honest, I thought that Terence Howard was the wrong actor to play Rhodes to begin with. Nothing to do with his talent, but with his looks: he did not resembled Rhodey Rhodes not one bit. Rhodes was more like a young Fred Williamson type of guy.

  20. word.

Morris Chestnut could have pulled it off too. Cheadle is too small and weak looking for a comic book character, IMO.
