This post is ridiculous. This sport should be out young, unbeaten fighters facing eachother. If Spence beats Thurman (which he would) it would be ENTIRELY different than what happened to Imam last night, as Spence is considered a top 10 welter, not a journeyman like Granados. Alllllllllll youre doing at this point is justifying Thurman's avoidance of Spence. That's it. Probably because you're not confident of Thurman winning. Far easier for him to deal with a scrub like Porter than a technician with power like Spence. I don't fault him for fighting Porter though.... IF it ever comes off.
I'm not that big a fan of Thurman and I'm not trying to protect him. But spence is a forum fantasy at this point. him beating a real contender before he fights the top guys is just the RIGHT thing to do. The tragedy is how long it's taking guys like Thurman, Brook, Porter, Khan etc so long to fight each other. Spence needs to get himself in that mix and he's not.
You keep saying Spence needs to fight a contender on one hand, yet REED just pointed out to you how many of them are avoiding him. Algeri would have been a credible test considering he just arguably beat Khan. The yuppie turned it down. Hopefully he can be lined up with a guy like Diego Chaves or Kevin Bizier next. Don't hold your breath on Jesse Vargas. Vargas doesn't even want any parts of Sadam Ali.
But it's not for lack of trying, though. As REED pointed out, offers have been made to guys like Berto, Collazo, Algieri, and others... Ultimately, one cannot FORCE another man to get into the ring with you. By now, Spence is a legitimate contender in the 147 pound weight class. And he is TRYING to get those guys in the ring. It's not like Spence is going around and behaving like a wanna be superstar and dodging the top guys left and right, demanding super fights with the likes of Mayweather and Pacquiao, as Thurman and Khan are doing. That's part of the reason a lot of these fights are not getting made. You have guys like Thurman and Khan who behave like they are "proven" and have this belief that they don't have to fight the best in their division and can make silly demands to face superstar fighters... Meanwhile, Spence gets derided because he WANTS to fight the young guns that are ranked in the top 10 in HIS OWN division. Never once has he made any ridiculous demand about 10 million dollars for facing somebody. Nor is he demanding a fight against somebody like Mayweather, Pac, or Canelo. He's simply trying to PROVE himself, and not only do none of these guys seem to want to face him in the ring, but boxing FANS as a whole make alibis and excuses for Spence not deserving a fight against a top contender in the division because he is "unproven," yet the likes of Khan and Thurman get passes for demanding fights that neither guy deserves. It's ridiculous.
Bizier is crap. Spence beating him won't prove nothing. He's a decent enough kid, but he lost twice to jo jo dan (razor thon both time though). And we saw the level of Dan against Brook. At least, it would make him the mandantory to Brook title, but it won't prepare him for top level opposition.
It's not the top guys fault that Spence can't find stepping stone opponents. The biggest part of your fantasy is you seem to think the world is clammoring to see these guys fight Spence. No one knows or cares about him, that's the point. Thurman, Garcia, Porter, Brook, etc need to start fighting each other because they have names. Realistically Spence needs to break into that circle, not shout from the outside with his 10 fans. I don't have a problem with people hyping Spence because he's good, but when you start disrespecting more proven fighters with this message board nonsense it's not fair, and it's part of the problem boxing faces with whiny disrespectful sports radio style fans.
But how is asking the likes of Thurman and Khan to face the best in their division being disrespectful? It's not like Thurman or Khan are superstars in the same vein as Mayweather, Pacquiao, Canelo, etc. Those three are indeed SUPER STARS who have EARNED their way to championship fights and have the right to face whomever they want. But these guys like Thurman, Garcia, Khan, etc. with all this cherry picking and making every excuse in the book to avoid fighting each other because they're all acting like desperate females looking for a sugar daddy pay day is just flat out DISGRACEFUL... It's gotten so bad now, that even the FANS are making excuses for these guys not fighting each other instead of DEMANDING these fights take place.
Thurman, Brook and Garcia are the best of the division. Not Spence, that's just supposition. You and a handful of people are trying to will him to the top without him proving himself all the while complaining about guys fighting weak opposition. I'd be happy to see Spence fight Diego Chavez, a guy Thurman KO'd like two years ago.
Garcia??? What has Garcia done at WELTWEIGHT (not junior welter, welter) to warrant being considered a top dog? Garcia has one fight at welter - a COMPLETELY shot Paulie. I don't believe FOR A SECOND that today's version of Paulie is better than Spence's recent opposition. Paulie is JUST A NAME at this point. And Guerrero is also just a name at this point, as he got a goft over Aaron Martinez in his last fight. Garcia will beat the shit outta Guerrero, and afterwards I'm sure you'll praise him while continuing to say Spence fights nobodies. The only guy of the three who has a credible win at welter is Brook. There's no need to continue this debate. You'll be eating a lot of crow in 2016 when Spence dispatches of Brook. I'll bump this thread back up afterwards.
I agree that not a big enough premium is put on actual accomplishment. And too big a one on aesthetics. And it is the reason we are subjected to mismatch after mismatch. Fighters get a lot of mileage out of beating up over matched opposition on TV.
I agree. I'd rather see Thurman vs Garcia, Thurman vs Brook, or of course Thurman vs Spence. Even Thurman vs Khan. But Garcia is tied up with Guerrero, Brook's ribs haven't healed, Khan is still looking for his balls, and Thurman has never wanted any of Spence. So I guess this is what it is.
he is legitimately unwatchable. Id rather see thurman vs some bum he'd blow out instead of porters style.
There's a possibility that Thurman knocks Porter out. I mean, SP was dropped and hurt by AB's hook. We know damn well Thurman is a lot more explosive and powerful than Broner.
There is also a possibility Porter knocks Thurman out. My guess is that is why Thurman would rather act like a complete bitch than to take the fight.
The fact anyone WANTS to see Thurman vs Porter speaks to how poor matches are today. I'm no fan of Thurman. I'm no fan of Porter. I don't care to see them fight.
Yeah, who would want to see two top 5 welters fight each other? On the one hand you bitch the top guys aren't fighting each other, then when they fight you say you don't care and won't watch. Either kill yourself or find another sport to follow. You don't seem happy here.
porter is unwatchable. I dont mind seeing thurman face a top 5 guy. just not boring ass, grappling, leaping, bull rushing porter
If I had the power to make 147 matches, I'd keep Porter out the mix personally. He's the weakest link. I'd make Thurman vs Garcia, and I'd make Brook vs Spence. Have the winners face off.
It's the LOGICAL Next Step for Both, Especially Being PBC Guys...Obviously NOT PPV Level Shit, but REED Would Watch It... REED
Me personally, I don't have anything against Porter. It's hard to dislike him cause he seems like a really cool guy to be around. I just don't think he's that good. If Broner were mentally tough he coulda outboxed Porter. But Broner's a mental midget who can't deal with pressure, which is why I picked Porter.
Sadam Ali is supposed to be Tim Bradley's mandatory now. If Bradley vacates, there's a good chance he's getting a fight with either Pacquiao or Canelo.
That clown would have been exposed. Vargas is trying for a Bradley rematch, which he wont' get. Bradley may get a mega fight if he vacates, I say they should fight for Bradley's vacant belt if it comes to that.
