Who is underrated right now? I'm starting this thread partly to point out how underrated Danny Garcia is. Dude is such a solid boxer, I've never seen a fight of his where he didn't impress. Despite being a huge underdog I picked him to beat Matthysse easily which he did. He's undefeated, has beat many good names like Matthysse, Judah, Morales, Khan, beat Malignacci to a pulp. Yet here he hardly gets any credit and fightnews that normally has fair rankings has him at 11th place, well below Khan and just above Paulie. He's an underdog in practically every big fight but always is in complete control once they step in the ring... Something just doesn't add up here, I'd pick him over anyone at Welter, dude can BOX !!
Sadam Ali Tyson Fury- Even though he is far from a great fighter, he gets underestimated because he's a goof. But the truth is that as ugly and unpretty as it is to see him fight, he does get the job done. I don't see him ever becoming a pound 4 pounder much less an ATG, but in his own strange way, he can fight. Lamont Peterson- Holds victories over Khan and Garcia in all reality. Hardly gets mentioned in discussions.
Garcia being undefeated is HIGHLY arguable. Most people think he lost to Herrera, and I had him losing to Peterson. He doesn't belong behind Khan though, considering he waxed that chinless faggot in 4.
Yeah, Ali is underrated. He's kinda the welterweight sleeper. Despite them not being as proven yet, Spence and Ali are near the top of the division in terms of skill. Another underrated guy is Andrade. Probably because his style isn't that appealing and neither is his personality. But it's possible he's the best junior middle in the world.
I thought he beat Peterson pretty clear despite losing some rounds, and Herrera fight was really close on an off-night for Garcia. These are top level opponents and he sure isn't getting outclassed.
Herrera isn't top level. He was considered a JOURNEYMAN going into the Garcia fight. Herrera lost to Alvarado, and got a TOTAL GIFT over Provo. Garcia is underrated if you think of him as a fraud or a scrub. He's a good fighter. But he's overrated if you think of as P4P material.
Yeah good mention on Andrade. He hardly gets talked about. Would like to see Canelo mix it up with the likes of Andrade and J-Rock but it's not likely to happen.
It's blasphemy to say this right now as everybody is sucking Canelo's dick, but I'd make both Andrade and J-Rock very live underdogs against him. They both have the talent to give the Ginger Hell. Mainly because he wouldn't dwarf them like he did little Miggy.
Ward's underrated, probably because virtually everybody hates him. He's a HOF fighter, and easily one of the best supermiddles of all time. Outside of Roy, I could see Ward defeating any supermiddle in history.
Garcia fights to damage his opponents not land pitty-pat shots so it might look like his fights are closer but he is throwing real power with his body behind it on many shots, that's the way he fights. I don't know about a top p4p guy but yeah he is in that p4p mix, he's beaten way too many 'A' guys, in impressive fashion, to not be. I just hope we get to see him in against more top guys before his prime gets too far behind him. I think there's a reason why we don't see people lining up to fight him or calling him out.
Totally different fight dynamics, but I'd argue his 'total gift' over Provo was a lot more convincing a win than his 'robbery' loss to Garcia.
Herrera-Garcia wasn't a robbery to me. It coulda gone either way. It was probably a draw. Herrera-Provo was a terrible decision. Provo won 8 or 9 rounds.
I actually agree that Garcia was and is underrated. Practically everyone expected him to lose to Mathysse. But when he didn't, people still said he was ordinary. I think it is because he has a unique style that many mistake for a lack of talent or skill (my theory). I felt he lost to Herrera and would have liked to see him make a rematch. But at least he went on to fight Peterson. However, he has not fought anyone for a while. So I'm starting to get impatient. Still, compared to his peers, his comp is top notch. As a whole really starting to not care about these Haymon fighters though. What is the point?
Luke Campbell. He looks a pretty decent prospect to me but literally NEVER gets mentioned on this site.
He's an Olympic gold medallist and has been heavily promoted by Sky over here but even the British posters never mention him. Not even to say he's shit.
Agree also with Garcia. I knew he was going to wax Matthhyyssee. He has solid fundamentals, he just doesn't look spectacular
I would ghave agreed with you before last saturday, and while I didn't see the fight, him having a super close fight with a probably slightly past Bute isn't a good sign for him.
It wasn't that clear. I only had Chunky winning 7-5. To DeGale's credit though, he showed a lot of toughness and heart. I can't criticize his performance.
It was closer than I predicted. Bute was aggressive and willing but his work lacked real quality, compared to Chunky who was a lot sharper.
