Considering how disappointing May-Pac was, 900 K is not bad at all.

Agreed, 900k is a great number if true (I personally believe it'S inflated though). People have raised the bar far too high recently due to Floyd and Pac having tremendous ride on the PPV for a few years (and even these 2 saw their number slip when not fighting top stars)

when i see rousey/holm getting a million buys an i think Canelo and cotto combined are more popular, i figured it would at least break the 1.5 million mark.

Canelo Alvarez ISN'T a "Mainstream" Fighter as of Yet...Miguel Cotto is on the SURFACE of Being a "Mainstream" Fighter...

Ronda Rousey is the QUINTESSENTIAL "Mainstream" Fighter & was THE Most "Mainstream" Entity In Her Sport, Leading Up to the Holm Fight...

Doesn't Surprise REED @ All that Rousey-Holm Did More Buys...

I figured the both combined would be more popular. I guess i could be wrong. But being Canelo already holds the title for most PPV solds Ever, i assumed he would have done better. Well, maybe this win will get him there.

How dare you insinuate the WBC is about anything other than the good of the sport!

I doubt it. Promotion is extremely important in boxing today but that's one of the few matchups that should have largely sold itself. If Canelo looked spectacular and destroyed Cotto it might have helped his next fight. Do you think very many casuals who bought it are thinking to themselves "damn I can't wait to see this guy again!"

I agree that the combination should have done better. The Mex-PR rivalry surely played a part in a lot of the sales. Canelo doesn't have that now so I don't see a reason to believe he can carry a show on his name alone. Even if he agrees to fight GGG next without bullshit stipulations (which won't happen anyway) it will still need a ton of hype.

Yeah, the WBC is probably looking for a way to recoup the $800,000 they wanted Cotto to pay GGG to step aside to allow the Canelo to happen. Couple that with the $300,000 they would have taken $1.1 million from Cotto's Canelo purse.

Anyone blame Cotto for telling the WBC to go fuck themself?

Cotto probably agreed with me that Canelo was going to beat him easily. At that point, why pay the huge sanctioning fee?

Cotto tried to negotiate with them, right? I don't really have, remember, or know all the details, but I don't think Cotto dismissed the importance of the belt, he just felt their sanctioning fee was too high. That's free market at work.
