I guess judged relative to what they set out to do you'd have to call that album outstanding. What they set out to do is a bit fucking weird tho

I liked that one trick pony tune, Hut, and pleasure city. That pleasure city track reminds me a lot of The Black Keys, though. Gold on the ceiling.

    Yes and No.

Yes, because the writer of the song, Jeff Hanneman had Wermacht/Waffen-SS interests which he was later accused of having 'more than just an interest in'.
No, because when kids are made aware of Auschwitz / Josef Mengele, they can go and learn about it (this stuff isn't taught at schools)

Same with Lemmy of Motorhead: he is fascinated by Nazi Germany yet no-one slag him off...

I just mean metal is weird. All the permarage and scowling and super serious posturing. Fine when you're 17 everyone's super serious and into angry posturing at that age. But after that? Wtf?

She looks neurotic and full of synthetics. And those shoes are an insurmountable problem. The dug looks well cool.

I've been to hundreds of metal concerts over the years. There are girls out there who like metal, but not that many compared to guys. Most of the concerts are 80% dudes.

I listen to the Liquid Metal station on Sirius / XM satellite radio. They did this special on Halloween where they played music about Satan all weekend. :) I was expecting black metal and death metal, which a lot of is was.

They played this song from Ghost. He Is. I had heard a couple of their songs before, but nothing like this. It's so beautiful and eloquent and passionate.

My gf and I heard the song in the car that afternoon, and we ended up listening to all their albums that night. I thought I was too old to fall in love with a band overnight like this. I've been listening to Ghost nonstop since Halloween.

Meliora will go down as one of the greatest albums of all time. Briliant song after brilliant song after brilliant song. This album gets better every time I hear it.

It's hard to decide on a favorite with so many brilliant songs on one album. Right now, Deus in Absentia is probably my favorite. This is a masterpiece in every way.

I'm not a Satanist or religious in any way. This song is so brilliant, I could see it converting lots of kids to Satanism. I've never heard a band like Ghost before and I'm 40.

Majesty reminds me of 70s era Black Sabbath. Every note is perfection. The vocals are so soft spoken and powerful at the same time.

a bit fey but this geezer can craft a pop song. And he gets special added bonus points for his album cover being an overhead planning drawing of a glasgow tenement street :bears:

Hideously generic and laughable at the same time.
And they sound nothing like any early 70s Black Sabbth.

Did I forget to also point out they're absolute shit?

    Well, there ya go....

Satanism is a big theme in European metal. It appeals to kids growing up in restrictive Christian environments. The unique thing about Ghost (other than their musical genius) is their softer sound. He Is almost sounds like a mainstream gospel song in the US.

Behemoth is more representative of Satanic metal in general. They have more of an extreme sound. I don't expect anyone here to get their music at all unless they're already into blackened death metal.

Behemoth was the 2nd to last band I saw in concert this year along with Cannibal Corpse. My last concert was Tenacious D, Jack Black's band. :) AKA the greatest band in the world. They are also fueled by Satan, but in a satirical way.

What's the newest metal band you enjoy today? Any at all from the last 10 years? Does metal just suck as a genre since 1981?
