Surely he's making a decent salary commentating on HBO?

Poor Jones, getting stopped by a C fighter like Macoreneli (and not just stopped but ktfo) is quite sad. At least, when Tyson was getting stopped by scrubs, it was more him being tired and quitting than being really hurt. This was brutal.

I don't believe he makes much. It is only a part-time job, plus if Jones wanted more money they could easily replace him with another ex-champ. A job that doesn't take much time, isn't very difficult and several people are willing to do, usually isn't well paid

I agree and I'm starting to think he is hurting his credibility as an announcer, too. You can't take a guy too seriously who is trying to get KOed as a russian these days.

He better retire already if he pretends to remain healthy enough to be a functional boxing commentator. Boxing can't be his side-job anymore.

Jones probably would have won that fight in his prime.

That's lower than what I was guessing. It's probably small change for Jones but I figured HBO must at least be paying him in the 6 figures.

enzo has had some brutal knockout losses himself and is probably not even a top 20 guy in the weight class, but he is many, many levels above guys that roy's been knocking out lately.

Jones had to have made much more than 30 million dollars in purses over the years. he got 10+ for Ruiz alone, and was getting 3 to 4 million for each of those bullshit fights on hbo

No way. It highlights how good he really was. He shouldn't be fighting since the Johnson KO really. Disasters.

    FFS this is sad.

I've often thought boxing would benefit from forced retirements in the event of repeated KOs. If ever there was a poster boy for it, it is Roy Jones.

Hang up the gloves Roy. It's been over for a long time now.

An Annual HBO Commentary gig must pay more than 85K.

Why would it though? Would HBO lose any viewers if instead or Roy they had Tarver? Or Michael Spinks? Or Larry Holmes?

Roy is a good commentator but not the only one available by any means.

Also, people tend to vastly overrate the money that TV people get paid. Like I said before, since working on TV doesn't take any special schooling or special skill and hundreds of thousands are willing to do it, there is no reason to pay too much

Undoubtedly, Lamps and Kellerman Make MORE than that, but REED Would Be Shocked if ANY Fighter Made More than 85-100 Grand...

As Brother UGO Alluded to, there's MANY Options Out there, for Color Commentators...As Good as Roy is, Bernard AIN'T Bad, Andre Ward was Pretty Good, Paulie Malignaggi is EXCELLENT...Joe Mesi was Pretty Good...B.J. Flores is Pretty Good...

Point Being, Color Guys CAN'T Get Toooooooo Pricey, Because Networks will Simply Move On to the NEXT Guy....

REED Doesn't Know for CERTAIN What Roy Makes, but it'd Be Shocking if it were MORE than 85-100K...

glen kelly, harmon, telesco, gonzalez, woods, frazier.

jones jr was getting a couple million each time he fought those stiffs

    Bernard is HORRIBLE bruh!

He's obviously extremely knowledgeable and sees everything, but he's simply not articulate enough to convey it to viewers. Hopkins sucks at commentary.

Ward and Paulie are very good. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Showtime pays Paulie 6 figs.

Sad to say for Roy, but Ward will likely steal his HBO job one day.

Im not sure what jones jr gets from HBO, Id guess a few hundred thousand a year. I am sure that Haymon pays his commentators more, however. He overpays for everything on purpose, it seems.
