he was past his peak by then, but richard hall twice gave him a beating to the face. would've been stopped on cuts had they've happened in the states probably.

The fact that DM wasn't even that good, and yet, RJ was reluctant to face him, is even more deplorable imo.

Aren't YOU the Guy that Lusted After John Ruiz, or is that Your Brother???...

On Top of that, Jones was BETTER than Adonis Stevenson, Jean Pascal or Any Other of your Canadian Hero's COMBINED

which is completely irrevelant to the discussion:baa:

Not to mention that I never was a big fan of any canadian fighter, bar HIlton (a million years ago) and Stevenson (before he started fighting bums. A bit like RJ did)

Yeah, and Roy bankrupted a sanctioning body to avoid fighting him.

I've told this story many times over the years...one week before Jones-Ruiz...

Muzse: Why don't you like Roy Jones

Freddie Roach (Collins' trainer): Because he ducks people

    Muzse: Like who?

    Freddie Roach: James Toney

    Muzse: He beat James Toney

    Freddie Roach: Steve Collins

Muzse: Really? Collins? Do you honestly think Collins would have beaten Roy?

Freddie Roach: No, but I would have liked to have seen it

The best thing Collins, Eubank and Benn did was keep their asses in England fighting each other. All would have gotten ass whuppings by Roy or Toney. saying Collins retired because he couldn't get a fight with Roy is like saying Froch retired because he couldn't get a fight with GGG...except Collins wasn't anywhere near the same class as Froch and GGG isn't a fraction of what Roy was.

Collins was slightly better than Froch IMO.

You are correct however that Collins, Benn, and Eubank were not in the same league as Roy and Toney.

Funny how people don't apply this logic to Mayweather when it comes to Margarito, Williams and Cintron.

About Roy you are correct, but Froch and Eubank were definitely in the same league as Toney.

Also, when shitting on Dariusz and his loss against Gonzalez it should be remembered that he was the same age there as Jones was against Tarver. That is, it is not totally fair to compare that to the prime.

I don't think anybody believes Dariusz would have beaten prime Roy. I also doubt that anybody actually thinks that the two not meeting doesn't look even a little bit bad on Jones' resume, when he view him as an all-time great

Roy's eagerness to fight overseas towards the end of his career hurts his legacy, unfortunately...what's the excuse for him not fighting overseas in the 90's? :dunno:

The difference is those guys didn't want to fight Roy.

Floyd didn't want to face those guys. So much so, he retired to not have to bother with any of them. Like REED said, those guys turned down offers to fight Roy.

Floyd turned down offers to fight those guys.

    Not exactly the same scenario.

First off, I'M not the one who shit on DM. I've said many times on here that I think DM was a very good fighter.

Froch and Eubank were not in the same league as Toney. Especially not Eubank, who's one of the most (if not THE most) overrated fighter of the 90s.

Sorry about that. I didn't mean you with that comment but rather other posts in this thread, but yeah it appears as if it was directed to you, which it wasn't. I remember you often giving props to DM several times.

I think Toney is pretty overrated himself. When an opponent attacked him, he was superb, but counter-punching was his only game. I am not sure if he would even beat Froch, if Froch fought him the same way he did against Abraham (of course, Toney was much better than AA but then again, Froch pitched a shutout against the Smurf)

    1. Yeah, DM was a quality fighter. I know MOST Jones fans call him a bum, but I'm one of the Jones fans who say he was a good fighter. Good enough to beat Roy? No. Roy woulda won a commanding decision. But I maintain that DM woulda beaten someone like Calz.

    2. Froch is NOT beating Toney! Not if we're talking about the Toney who thrashed Barkley and Charles Williams. I commend Froch for getting the most outta the limited natural talent he had, but the gap in talent and skill between him and JT is too vast for Froch not to methodically broken down. Froch might go the distance, but Toney would be giving him a pretty good beating in the later rounds.

Collins wanted to fight Roy. Fact.

"Muzse: Really? Collins? Do you honestly think Collins would have beaten Roy?"

So..."He that they call the Sly One: Really? Margarito? Do you honestly think Margarito would have beaten Floyd?"

It's the same thing. Roy proved his talent against the likes of Toney, Hill and Toney...he didn't need to fight Collins to prove shit.

Mayweather proved himself against guys that were better than Margarito.

I swear, explaining boxing concepts and history to mayweather fans is like explaining football to a woman on Super Bowl Sunday.

No matter how simple you make it she's never going to get it and all it accomplishes is keeping you from having meaningful conversations with guys who know the sport.
