154 Id take leonard, i think wright could beat him at 160 vs the version hagler fought but it would be a close fight and i doubt he'd get the decision.
Leonard beats both in dreadful "fights". Ray's shoe-shines make more of an impression than Winky's ear muff defense and "you didn't hit me clean" smiles.
Leonard by a pretty wide margin. Wink would not be able to deal with Ray's speed and angles. And Leonard had enough pop that Winky couldn't just afford to walk through him.
I know you love Wright, but cmmmonnnn. Even the Leonard of 87 decisions Wright clearly. A faded Hagler is still superior to the BEST version of Wright. Difference is, Wright would be competitive with the older Leonard. I think he gets his ass kicked by the 81-82 Leonard. A more fair matchup for Wright would be Norris. Tbh, I don't think he beats Terry either but at least he's got a better shot than he would against Ray.
I think it's the other way around. I'd give a much better chance to Wright against Leonard than Norris. Leonard is a better fighter than Norris, but Norris all out style would really shine against Wright turtle defense.
Wright sure has become overrated. The idea of a man who had a razor close fight with Vargas having a shot at Ray Leonard is absurd.
I don't think he has much of a chance (Might win 1 in 10), just that he has a better chance against LEonard than Norris (who I think would batter him 10 in 10).
Norris would beat Wright more easily than Leonard would, actually. Terry Norris' only deficiency was chin...and Wright didn't punch hard enough to exploit it, IMO. .
Only southpaw I can recall Norris dealing with in his prime was Carl Daniels. Daniels was a decent fighter, but nothing special. Leonard took out a quality southpaw in Kalule.
leonard and hagler were both beatable by the time they fought. wright was very sharp and very juiced up at the time he fought trinidad.
Neither one was peak/prime. Leonard's prime was 81-82, and Hagler's prime was 83-84. Having said that, I don't think Wright had the STYLE necessary to beat either one. But out of the two, I think he'd be tougher for 87 Hagler because Marv had lost a good deal of quickness. Leonard in 87 would still be too quick for Wright.
Disagreed. While Hagler's speed was diminished it wouldn't play as much a role because Wright would be in front of him the majority of the time and there would be no size advantage like against Leonard. Add to that the inherent defensive advantages of being a southpaw don't come into play either.
Wright vs hagler or leonard would have been entertaining fights. Anyone who thinks otherwise is jaded or confused
