I think most people would guess the top 5 off the top of their head:

1 - Johnny Depp
2 - Denzel Washington
3 - Will Ferrell
4 - Liam Neeson
5 - Will Smith

Robert Downey Jr leaves everybody else on the dust: $50 million for The Avengers plus a chunk of the box office. $40 million plus % for his 'secondary role' in 'Captain America: Civil War'

 

Downey Jr isn't an 'overpaid' actor. :nono:

He is overpaid! Tony Stark? That's himself! what a stretch! the only part he 'acts' is in pretending to be a genius scientist, the rest is Downey's own personality.

 

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was one of the greatest movies of all time. If you're into acid. Johnny Depp is a great actor who's made lots of great movies. I don't think it's possible to overrate him as an actor.

Everyone on the list is a good actor. I love Will Ferrell in most of the movies he's done. I know a lot of people don't find him funny.

 

But the movies he stars in - pay back 5-6x in takings what he is paid personally.

Even if Tony Stark is Downey just playing himself it's still a great iteration of the character and comes off entertaining as hell. Say what you will but Stark is the single most entertaining character not deploying powers that has ever appeared in any of the Marvel films and it's easily proven by the fee that Downey not only received but actually earned.

Also I don't know if you're a Downey hater or just hating on his Marvel success because it's not like he portrays himself or plays the same guy in every film he does. He may do that for Tony Stark but for other characters he actually does a bit of acting.

I mean how can you hate on a guy whose addiction had him with one foot out the Hollywood door only for him to kick his habit and come back with a vegence through hard work and perseverance?

 

I don't hate Downey. On the contrary, I like him a lot, particularly how genuine he seems to be at Comic-Con and among fans. Very likable guy who is enjoying his newfound second fame. But no actor is worth close to a $100 million salary and that is what Downey is reaping with those Marvel deals.
