Watched it yesterday on a big IMAX with full Dolby Atmos and I really liked it.
Too many nods & winks to the first three movies made and this is telling: almost nothing referenced from Phantom / Clones / Sith movies.
    Done on purpose?

    * Liked the new characters, Finn, Rey and Po.
    * Didn't like Kylo Ren - and even less when he took his mask off (why did he need it on anyway? Why do all the Sith's need masks anyway?
    * Leia: looks totally shot and now sounds from the South USA.
    * C3P0 - put this cunt out to rest, already, ditto R2D2: obsolete cunts.
    * Who's the Leader of the Stormtroopers? Chick in a silver ST outfit?

    8 / 10

Everyone that knows films, criticizes Lucas for what he's done to star wars (and Indiana Jones for that matter). It's not just me.

We all agree that he messed up big time with SW, but that doesn't erase all the good things he has done. I am glad that the franchise is now owned by Disney and that J.J. Abrams has his hands on it instead of George, but for the sake of creativity I hope the next film is not again a 'greatest hits' compilation of scenes from the first trilogy like the current one is. That was needed for this one to reassure hardcore fans that SW is back, BUT more of the same will be as pathetic as midichlorians and Jar Jar Binks.

I'm sure they'll advance the story. If fact I'm certain they've already said as much....just that the first film had to reset the franchise.

They had to get rid of midichlorians, aliens with jamaican (jaFAKEAN) and Italian accents, Jedi's riding on Lizards, every dark side wielder being called "Darth" Something etc...and get back to Star Wars basics. Now that they have established a foundation I'm sure they'll take some risks...without destroying its soul this time.

    That's a bit naive?
Studio execs aren't interested in creative works-of-art.
    Haven't been for decades.

Even this new movie, as good as it is, now has that epically-massive blockbuster 'aura' about it: it looks real expensive.
Back in 1977, Star Wars has something like a $US10million budget behind it...by comparison, The Spy Who Loved Me released later that year was almost $US15million and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind was almost double at $US20million.

My point is, Lucas did manage to create something magical without the big bucks and more on character and story and set-pieces that resonated with audiences (e.g. opening sequence, Cantina band, TIE fighter attack, Final battle)
Plus, they didn't go fucking nuts over the merchandising until 8 months later in 1978 when Kenner bought out the first of the now sought-after figures.
Sure, you could get Star Wars comics, sketchbooks, rulers, pencil-cases, stationary, paperback book, various magazines....

Now, they have fucking Star Wars fruit before the movie even fucking opened....

This new 'reboot' as you nerds like to use will be ruined.

I mostly collected and still own magazines, books and calendar from 1977. I was too old to buy toys.

the first official comicbook adaptation from Marvel was published before the film opened. It has a LOT of mistakes!

This was an LP album with Roscoe Lee Brown narrating the plot, but is mostly the film's key scenes with the actor's dialogues, sound effects and music. Before the advent of VHS this was the closest to relive the film. I'll listen to it, closed my eyes and could picture the film in my head all over again.

Why do Star Wars movies always end exactly the same: lightsaber battle?

The very first star wars film didn't end with a lightsaber battle. The Ben-Darth battle occurred mid-film.

However a star wars film is not a star wars film unless it has at least one lightsaber duel.

What like a mission impossible film without an impossible mission? lol

Lightsabers are the core of star wars and sets it apart from other space odysseys.

Like The Rolling Stones not playing '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' and the crowd freaking out about being 'let-down' or 'ripped-off', you mean?

I mean....Star Wars without a lightsaber duel is indistinguishable from Guardians of the Galaxy

So, is Rey the daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa....or the daughter of Luke Skywalker?

They said that Luke And Ben were training young Jedi and Ben killed them all. I think Rey was one of those Jedi and skywalker saved her and put her on that planet and left her there before disappearing. She was probably really small so her memory wasn't great.

    So, too far-fetched to think:
    Ren-Rey / Luke-Leia

i.e. Skywalker's daughter has to take down Han & Leia's son?

Remember, 'The Force' tends to be hereditary...

That would suck as an explanation. For her to be too young to remember she'd have to be less than 5 years old. A five year old Jedi in training? That's some George Lucas shit.

Surely Disney is better than that. I'm hoping she's the daughter of Luke Skywalker, some secret daughter that nobody knew about except him.
