Friend......."Youngling" is not a stage of Jedi training, it simply means young kid. "Padawan" is the first stage of Jedi training. So again...if Obi Wan started his training at age 5 and was still wearing the Padawan hairstyle at age 35...something's wrong. Perhaps Obi Wan had brain damage? lol

George Lucas was obviously inconsistent with this silliness. Besides that it was a stupid idea to begin with....having little kids start their life as a Jedi (which is a type of Monk). Surely you need to be old enough to make that type of life changing decision.

The Prequels are filled with so much nonsense, it's unbelievable.

HOW THE FORCE AWAKENS IS A REMAKE OF A NEW HOPE

In case you haven’t heard Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens opened recently, removing the shroud of secrecy that has been covering it. So here’s what we know now: J.J. Abrams is awesome, and rather than coming up with a brand new story for his take on Star Wars, he decided to remake the original Star Wars film, A New Hope. Anyone with eyes and a functioning brain can see that there are more than a few passing similarities between the two films. Here are the major ways that The Force Awakens is basically just A Newer Hope. And of course, major spoilers follow, y’all.

    <source media="(min-width: 656px)" srcset="http://img2.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/introducing-a-core-trio-1450913998.jpg"><source media="(max-width: 655px)" srcset="http://img2.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/medium/medium_introducing-a-core-trio-1450913998.jpg"><source media="(max-width: 330px)" srcset="http://img2.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/small/small_introducing-a-core-trio-1450913998.jpg">[IMG]

    INTRODUCING A CORE TRIO

A New Hope introduces audiences to three heroes who are, nearly four decades later, still household names: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. They became the core of the initial Star Wars saga and the driving force behind the franchise. The Force Awakensintroduces us to three new household names: Poe Dameron, FN-2187 aka Finn, and Rey, this generation’s trio of heroes. Based on what we’ve seen in the film, they’re the Luke, Leia, and Han for this generation—it’s just that no one can quite figure out which one is which.

REY WALKING IN THE JAKKU DESERT WITH BB-8
Anyone else find the scenes of Rey walking the Jakku desert with BB-8 by her side a little too familiar? Maybe it’s because you’ve seen it before. After purchasing C3PO and R2D2 from a Tatooine outpost, Luke Skywalker walks in the Tatooine desert with R2D2 and C3PO in A New Hope in just the same way.

    <source media="(min-width: 656px)" srcset="http://img4.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/kylo-ren-1450913998.jpg"><source media="(max-width: 655px)" srcset="http://img4.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/medium/medium_kylo-ren-1450913998.jpg"><source media="(max-width: 330px)" srcset="http://img4.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/small/small_kylo-ren-1450913998.jpg">[IMG]

    KYLO REN

We’re stating the obvious here. Kylo Ren is clearly a reincarnated Darth Vader, right? An evil, looming, masked black figure who reports to a gigantic, withered monstrosity of evil? That description can work for both Kylo Ran and granddaddy Darth Vader. We even hear similar origin stories about the two, as characters tell us that both Darth Vader and Kylo Ren betrayed their masters and destroyed the other Jedi Knights. But where Darth Vader was a dispassionate creep who had mastered his emotions, Kylo Ren is still a slave to them, and can’t help but flip out on computer consoles with his lightsaber when things don’t go his way.

THE DROID HOLDS THE SECRET CLUE TO EVERYTHING
Thanks to R2D2’s secret message from Leia to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke, the farmboy whose future as a Jedi would save the Rebellion and the galaxy, is led to his Jedi mentor. R2 holds the secret key that’s needed to basically save everyone in A New Hope. In The Force Awakens, Poe Dameron trusts his droid, BB-8 with the final piece of the map that would lead the resistance to Luke Skywalker. BB-8 holds the clue the resistance needs to save the galaxy. As ever, the droids are the real heroes here.

    JAKKU AND TATOOINE

Since Rey is pretty clearly meant to be the new version of Luke Skywalker, it makes sense that she too would have been raised an orphan on a desert planet. And the similarities between Jakku and Tatooine are almost total and complete—all that’s missing are the twin suns and Jabba the Hutt. Then, Rey escapes from Jakku while being pursued by agents of the evil First Order in the Millennium Falcon…just like Luke escapes Tatooine while being pursued by agents of the evil Empire.

STARKILLER BASE AND THE DEATH STAR
You really don’t need us to spell this one out. When the Death Star makes its second appearance in Return of the Jedi, it’s bigger and badder than the first one. But when it shows up in The Force Awakens as the Starkiller Base? It’s even biggerer and badderer. In fact, while much of The Force Awakens is a remake of A New Hope, we’re going to go out on a limb and just say it: The First Order’s Starkiller Base is just a complete rip off of Darth Vader’s Death Star. While the Starkiller Base can inflict much more damage than the Death Star, it’s basically the same weapon.

    <source media="(min-width: 656px)" srcset="http://img4.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/poe-damerons-flying-fight-scene-1450913999.jpg"><source media="(max-width: 655px)" srcset="http://img4.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/medium/medium_poe-damerons-flying-fight-scene-1450913999.jpg"><source media="(max-width: 330px)" srcset="http://img4.looper.com/img/gallery/how-the-force-awakens-is-a-remake-of-a-new-hope/small/small_poe-damerons-flying-fight-scene-1450913999.jpg">[IMG]

    POE DAMERON'S FLYING FIGHT SCENE
Poe Dameron solidifies his position as a main hero in The Force Awakens in the huge fight scene at the end of the movie, in which he pilots a an X-Wing in the coordinated attack against the Starkiller Base. It’s nearly identical to Luke Skywalker’s scene at the end of A New Hope, and it has pretty much the same results: a gigantic explosion in space.

The starkiller base has a single weak point from where it can be destroyed, just like the deathstar. Haven't they learned anything?

Most if not all films are inspired (and some heavily) by another film that preceded them.

Obi wan was 25, you say? I heard that too. So there are major problems with this from a continuity perspective...but bfore I go into that, being still a padawan at age 25 still suggests that he was a padawan for at least 15 years. Again a slow learner.

But in terms of continuity. 25 in Episode 1 means no more than 35 in Episode 2 and 40 in Episode 3. Therefore by Episode 4, he would have been only 57. Does that sound like an "old fossil", "surely he's dead by now" type of age?

he would have been 59 and to a younger darth, who he was always competing with, yes he would be looked at as old.

Lucas blew it by choosing young actor Ewan Macgregor instead of forty something Kenneth Branagh. Age continuity doesn't match and anyone can see that.

    How so?

"In A New Hope, Obi-wan was 59, and had been living in the harsh conditions of Tatooine for 21 years, which would easily have added a good ten years to his appearance. Anakin was 9 at the beginning of Episode I, making him 19 in Episode II and 22 in Episode III. In Episode IV, he would be 43"

Alec Guinness was 63 when he played Obi-Wan. That is only a difference of 4 years. It looks pretty good to me.

Then you have Darth Vader killing his apprentic Obi Wan Kenobi in a shock. Ren sgocks everyone by killing his father. This is just a remake. They could have called it a remake.

Honestly! Alec Guinness' age is irrelevant, and you know that. It's the age of the character he was playing that is the important point. Obi Wan was built up as an old man, so old in fact that many doubted that he was still alive. By no stretch of the imagination is 59 that degree of old. Many actors play characters that are much older than the actor himself, or younger. The point is that Obi Wan was an old man, the suggestion was that he was old enough to be dead by then so that would hint at a guy in his 80s

So what if they thought he was dead? They thought he was dead because he disappeared and nobody had heard from. Not because he was fucking old. If you stop hearing from someone who is the last of his kind and is basically in hiding, you pretty much are going to think he died. This is common fucking sense.

Dude....."Obi Wan Kenobi? Surely he must be dead by now", is a statement that suggests that age is the factor. Be reasonable. Secondly, that's not isolated as i mentioned before Han Solo called him an old fossil. It was a given that he was an old man. I'm now convinced that you are being deliberately obtuse.

Many similarities to Episode IV but also many differences.

The main protagonist is female not male.
The old Jedi only has a cameo at the very end and you don't see him wield a saber in a duel
The Droid isn't carrying secret plans of the enemy space station
You see the Antagonist's master in this one (Emperor wasn't revealed in Episode IV)
The main protagonist is not involved in the final space battle
The three protagonists of the plot are never all together
The main Antagonist is NOT part of the space battle
The main Antagonist does not kill his former master
The weapon of the evil regime is a modified planet and not a space station
The lightsaber battle is a climactic one and doesn't occur mid picture.
No one dies in the lightsaber duel

    The list goes on....

Sure he must be dead could mean alot of things. Tatooine has very harsh living conditions. He was being searched for by the Rebel Alliance, etc. there are many factors one could assume someone is surely dead. And age does not have to be it. His very own disappearance could lead people to assume he is dead. You dont see a guy around anymore who is the only jedi left, assumptions are made. And who cares what Smart Ass Han Solo said. Many young people refer to older people as fossils. Ask a young kid if 30 is old and they will say yes. Im not being obtuse, you just are being unreasonable. But im not worried. I have single handily destroyed your arguments. And im not even a fucking star Wars fan.

59 is not old. When Ben Kenobi talks to Luke about himself while presenting him the lightsaber he says, "your uncle wouldn't allow it thinking you might follow OLD OBI WAN in some dumb fool idealistic crusade like your father...". Luke had earlier referred to him as a 'strange OLD hermit'; Darth Vader tells him 'your powers are weak OLD MAN...'.

and about prequels continuity, yeah, while getting burned at Mustaphar after Obi Wan mauled him cripple, Anakin screams, "I HATE YOU!!! oh, btw, pass my lightsaber to my son when he is old enough, okay buddie?"

Who are these idiots? Why in the world would anyone want to bring back George Lucas?

They want bad dialogue? They want to destroy continuity? They want silly characters like Gungans and Ewoks?

I betcha all these online petitioners are under 25 years of age.
