I was just reading that Frank Mir is going to fight Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night-Brisbane on March 20th. I've been a big fan of Mir's since he started in the UFC. I really wish the dude would retire rather than agreeing to a match up like this. Any fighters, MMA or boxing, that you really hoped would hang up the gloves before being brutally stopped?
Both guys are past their prime and they've both been knocked out too many times. They're both still dangerous, even when they're hurt. I don't like to see guys fight this far past their primes. I hate seeing my favorite fighters get destroyed by guys they would have beaten in their primes. Nate Marquardt is a recent example. It's their choice, obviously. Some guys like Dan Henderson have found success (sometimes) at an older age.
Right now i would pick Mir. I will make a certain pick the day of the fight. And if it's Mir, you're on.
On second thought, I can't do it. I'll be rooting for Mir so it would be counter productive. I actually hope you're right.
