Sorry, Anthony, but this sequel is now dead.

It was announced today that the plans for the 'Pacific rim' sequel have been shelved indefinitely by its studio and that Guillermo del toro is now moving on to direct a remake of 1966 scifi classic Fantastic Voyage. Many insiders think that the decision was partly due to the first film less than stellar box office numbers (China's grosses saved it from losing money) and the fact that Del Toro most recent film 'Crimson Peak' was a box office turd.

'Fantastic Journey' will be the second time Del toro teams up with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment with their first collaboration, an adaptation of H.P. lovecraft's 'At The Mountains of Madness' ending being shelved too due to budgetary problems.

That sucks. It was one of the best block buster movies of this decade. I'll rewatch the movie again today in 3D.

It had nothing to do with box office numbers panchy. But I don't care either way

Deltoro has a history of this. Odds are the studio and him didn't see eye to eye on things.

Well, Del Toro and his Pacific Rim 2 fans are some lucky bastards: it turns out that China's Wanda Group has acquired Hollywood's Legendary Entertainment for $3.5 billion. As the company's newest and biggest shareholder, Wanda's CEO can pretty much determine which Legendary Films will be financed or get bigger budgets. Pacific Rim happened to be very popular in China and since Wanda owns that country's biggest movie theater chain, it is a no-brainer that he will greenlight the recently cancelled project as Wanda is more interested in China's box office revenues that will directly benefit its own chain with their own movies.

So there you go, 'Pacific Rim 2' will happen and China has saved Del Toro's ass once again!

Gypsy will get some Chinese upgrade package now. It will be a Chinese robot. And the Japanese girl will probably be replaced by a Chinese one.
