This and The Revenant are going to duke it out at The Oscars 2016...

 

Saw it. It was a solid movie, but I don't think near good enough to deserve best picture. I haven't seen The Revenant yet, I'll see it this weekend. But I'd be surprised if it's not much better than Spotlight.

The Big Short was much better than Spotlight.

 

Why am I seeing nothing but ultra-stellar reviews about it then?

 

Probably because it's about fag priests, and Hollywood is run by the fags.

But seriously, it was a solid movie.... worth ONE viewing. Would I ever bother to watch it again? No.

If you're producing or directing a film and want a solid chance of an Oscar....make sure homosexuality is central to the plot.

Why is why McConaughey won an Oscar for Best Actor as an AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club, when the award CLEARLY shoulda gone to Leo for Wolf of WS.

The academy hates Leo for some reason. He even played a homo in J.Edgar and STILL couldn't get an award.

Same for Sean Penn for "Milk". Brad Pitt should have won for Benjamin Button IMO.

 

Negative. Pitt's performance in BB was nothing special.

Mickey Rourke shoulda won that year for The Wrestler. He was robbed blind.

 

Word. If they don't give it to him this year, he should give up.

I've always found him to be a very strong actor. He even had rather underrated performances in Titanic and Man in the Iron Mask. He's a solid performer.

 

The public backlash for him getting robbed last time was so strong that I'd be surprised if he DIDN'T win this year.

Who's he really going up against anyway? There's been no ground-breaking acting performances this year. The best I've seen was Steve Carell in The Big Short, but he'll be up for Best Supporting.

I heard Fassbender got rave reviews for Steve Jobs so I would assume he's a live underdog.

 

Last year Cumberbatch should have won for The Imitation Game.

 

I thought both Cooper's performance and the movie were both incredibly overrated.

Keaton himself put on a good performance, but Birdman was a piece of shit movie.

 

Agreed. Leo has everything going for him this year.

In my mind, Leo should have TWO Best Actors. One for The Aviator, and one for Wolf of WS.

And everybody's saying he's brilliant in The Revenant.

 

Cooper is a good actor. I like him as an actor. But I don't think he was anything special in American Sniper.

I thought he was BRILLIANT in Silver Linings Playbook. Good enough to win Best Actor.

There are lots of films he should have been nominated or won for. Blood Diamond, Gangs of New York, Jango blah blah blah. Consistent performer.

 

Yeah, I didn't see "The Aviator" until fairly recently and Leo was pretty fucking great along with Scorcese's directing. Sad that movie has been mostly forgotten about already. Got nominated for a bunch of stuff but really only won technical awards.

 

Say what you want about Nick Cage, but the guy was pretty damn awesome in Leaving Las Vegas, and deserved it. That year, Sean Penn was also brilliant in Dead Man Walking.
