As we all know, Joe was at his best at super middle. What happens if he steps up against the brutal Ruskie?
Kov batters Joe. That's not Calz hate either. Kov would be just be too strong with too much offensive firepower and arsenal for Joe.
Never ever understood why Fightbeaters rate Calzaghe when pre-Lacy, he was the laughing stock of the fucking Forum. So he then outpoints said guy (who had one punch in his arsenal), beats Kessler, beats two old guys at 175lb and gets called a HoF? Kov crushes this idiot...
This forum is NOTHING compared to Eastside. On ESB, there's posters who SERIOUSLY think Calz could beat prime Jones, Mike Spinks, and Bob Foster. I maintain that Kov would've beaten Joe up badly. Calz never in his career faced the type of power Kov has. And Kov isn't robotic like Kessler. He's a lot more creative and fluid than that, and for my money has a higher ring IQ than Kessler had.
Calzaghe is criminally underrated here. Having said that Kov beats Calzaghe at 175lbs IMO...but Calzaghe is a handful for him. Calzaghe was as fast, busy and as awkward as they get. It's no accident he retired undefeated.
Bullshit. Everyone on this fucking forum was on Calzaghe's case when he was with Werren and always called in sick. Had plenty of years to face Jones Jr, Hopkins, Toney, Tarver, Tiozzo, Michelczweski...loads of guys....instead his fucking idiot Dad and Werren kept him away and fought bums instead. There's hardly anyone on his resume of any note until the last 2 years of his career. Smoke and mirrors. :nono:
True, but he beat a near prime Eubank with room to spare and the Hopkins that he beat was still an elite fighter, evidenced by his two fights that came on either side of that one: Tarver and Pavlik respectively. Those two victories are better than any two Kovalev victories.
Near-prime Eubank??? He was 2 fights short of retirement, ya tit! :flip: I will give you Hopkins. But does that make a HoF'er? Junior fucking Jones beat MAB twice yet WTF cares about or hears about him?
Yeah but when you combine Hopkins with Kessler and a previously unbeaten lacy...you have a guy that's shown his talent. He was no bum...if he were he would have been exposed by one of those guys at least.
And yet, Froch, who has a much better record fighting guys in their prime gets slagged off. The same Froch who beat Pascal seven fucking years ago, and the same Pascal who is the recent two-time opponent of this Forum's current darling Kovachenko. Typical FB hypocrisy and double-standards...
LMFFFFFFAOOOO @ Calz beating a "near prime" Eubank. Not ONLY was Eubank shot, he also took the fight on a week's notice. He was a last-minute replacement for Steve Collins.
Yeah, put Kov in with Lacy and see what woulda happened. Lacy might JUST be coming outta a coma now...
I think it's more salient than he was a last-minute replacement. Calz was already in-shape for Collins, who at the time had more left in the tank than Eubank. So obviously, Sloppy Joe was ready for a lesser opponent. Who was Eubank ready for? No one.
This is all transparent bullshit... By flat out lying about Calzaghe, sly can use him to puff up Hopkins into Ezzard Charles
Yup....Duran was dead in his last fight at Lightweight evidenced by his move to Welterweight. Roy Jones was dead against Clinton Woods...since he moved up 20 pounds to face Ruiz. All dead I tell ya!
Calzaghe is criminally overrated on this forum. The guy needed a contentious decision to get past an ancient hopkins. Kovalev is crushin him
Some of the people on here who can actually analyse fights admit the truth which is that Calzaghe-Ward is a 50-50 fight. Most of those people will tell you Kovalev-Ward is a 50-50 fight. Yet replace Ward with Calzaghe and suddenly it's a massacre. Makes no sense. Now I know there are Calzaghe detractors on here who wouldn't give him credit if he saved their mothers from a burning building, so save the predictable responses, but for those who claim to be objective, do the maths.
Styles make fights Ward beats Calzaghe clean, BTW Your beloved slapping faggot would be turning tricks on the Thames by Tuesday after Kovalev was done widening his culo hole
I'm one of those people and I never jumped on any fucking bandwagon, either. I watched his fights on SKY Sports back from 1997 onwards and from his interviews back then, he came across as a totally, unlikeable cock, for a start. So, right off, I had dislike for him anyway. He feasted on domestic fights set up by Werren: Chris Eubank, Robin Reid, Richie Woodhall, David Starie, etc He then went up a degree with the Charles Brewer fght, then pulled the wool over everyone's eyes with another host of total tomato cans until he couldnt keep doing it and had to face somebody. "Who shall we get in? We had a see-saw with Byron Mitchell but we need a big name. How about a guy with 'Left Hook' as his nickname. You know how to fight this guy Joe? I'll give you a clue: his nickname." The fact that Jeff Lacy was the biggest US hype for god knows how many years was not lost on the media or the public and suddenly, Calzaghe was known for that 'Magical Night in Manchester' So, we're at what, 41-0 and really, no stellar names to show for it. :dunno: So, you guys look back and say "ahhhh, but he beat a prime Kessler" Okay, who had Mario Kessler beaten up to this point either? So that leaves us with: Bernard Hopkins Roy Jones Jr I will give Calzaghe major props for beating Hopkins...especially on points.....but the sad, honest fact is...this site fucking LOVES Jones Jr and Hopkins.
You also have to consider that most journalists at ringiside scored the fight for Hopkins (not to mention that bhop was older than Matusalem), so it's not nearly as big an accomplishement as some claims it is. Also, Reid probably deserved the win against him. I'll give him the Kessler fight, but even then, Kessler is 2-3 fighting outside Denmark , so it's not THAT much of an accomplishment. Personally, I'll always rebember him for his incredibly humiliating duckjobs of Glen Johnson (IIRC he pulled out 4 times, each time with a lamer reason). Calzaghe is pretty much the litmus test for boxing fans. Those that rate him in the same class as guys like Ward and Kovalev proves that they are more influenced by flashy records and flashyness (or in the case of a few brits, ethnicity), than credible accomplishments, so I tend to not take them seriously.
So: * old Hopkins, to a degree. * massive away-game for Kessler at Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. What does it leave us with? :dunno:
