LOL I saw that coming a mile away - Northcutt with flashy hands and kicks, speed and flamboyance, a winning smile and beautiful hair........but never been tested, even slightly. He comes up against an unheralded fat dude with a bit of heart and some skills......ZOMG TAP DA FUCK OUT HELP ME MOMMA!!
Big deal. The kid is 19. And it was a good choke. That was his third fight in the ufc. And he was only training part time. This kid has a bright future now that he is going to be training full time at Tristar
Are you president of the Sage Northcutt fanclub? :: I agree that he's got time on his side and much to learn, but - this again goes to the UFC overhyping (and overpaying) good looking, flashy or mouthy fighters at the expense of better fighters without so much of the abs, personality or hairstyle.
No, but i dont think it was overhype. The kid was featured on a webisode and became a big star. People were coming to see him. and he was willing to fight every few weeks. The kid was already more a celebrity than some of these vets based on his persona and because of that show.
it's not like he was blown out. he got into a bad position and wasn't able to defend the choke. he may not become great, but i never hold high expectations for someone who's that early into his career. i'm just surprised by all the negative twitter backlash from fellow fighters. i never even found him to be that arrogant.
Yeah he got caught after throwing a sloppy kick and had to tap. This is 3rd fight in less than a year. Give the kid a break. What the hell were doing at 19?
Yes he was time on his side but that was an early tap, no question about it. At 19, They really need to take their time with this kid. To be fair, Conor was accused of something similar way back when and look at him now.

That settles that.... :/ It was an early tap - no shame in that he's 19 with practically zero experience at the level. http://www.balls.ie/mma/sage-northcutt-strep-throat/323229
Me and my team like to work on moves and review them. We tried that same move and the majority of us didnt last 7 seconds. It's a hard choke. 10 seconds in a choke is not a quick tap, no matter what anyone says.
Exactly. That's something that old-man-dinosaur-boxing-fans don't get: you dont have to have a XX-0 record to be 'good'
check out his amateur ko loss here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWFUwKwsIbE I thought they used headgear and other protective gear for amateur fights? It looks the same as a pro fight.
I thought he looked VERY skilled. Particular his kicks which looked PHENOM level. The problems I see with him are: a) He is TOO ripped, that kinda muscle takes alot of O2 to keep moving. Ripped dudes like that very often have a history of gassing hard. b) He doesn't like getting hit, wants to stay pretty, and seems to lack some of the mental fortitude required in MMA, as evidenced by how he reacted after getting hit, and the early-ish tap.
He didn't seem to accurate with his striking against Barbarena. It's more flash than substance right now with him I think.
