word. People seem to forget simple things like this. Leonard, after Hagler, was a cherry picker. Lalonde, a Hearns that was just knocked out by Barkley and looked like shit against Olajide, old fat Duran etc. He never fought Benn, Nunn, McCallum and a handful of other guys that were formidable and in their primes. We don't criticize him for that and shouldn't...he was old and his skills were deteriorating.

The Mayweather who fought Berto and Pacquiao is not the same fighter who fought Judah and Hatton.

Key difference: before his cherry picking later years leonard built up store credit with fans in his prime years fighting some of the best guys around his weight class in history and going to war in some all time great battles; floyd racked up a tab with cherry picked title wins, phony retirements, bullshit contract demands etc. then fighting like a negative bitch in the nearest thing he had to a defining fight. While going around calling himself 'tbe' having never taken the risks necessary to prove it. People basically want him to fuck right off

Firstly......all of that may or may not be accurate, but that's irrelevant to the current suggestion that Floyd should have to take big risks at age 39. THAT'S the point, let's not stray from it.

Side note: Leonard retired more times than any other fighter I can think of btw.

Secondly...Let's not get it twisted. Pacquiao wasn't Floyd's biggest defining fight, it was just his biggest fight from a commercial and casual fan appeal standpoint. Mayweather's fights against Corrales, Castillo, Hatton and De La Hoya were more defining. I suspect that there was more casual public interest (and more money for Ray) in Leonard Duran 3 than there was for Leonard Duran 1...even though the first fight was far more important from a career standpoint.

Many of you still confuse "more exciting" with "better". That type of confusion is immature.

Gatti was more exciting that Pernell Whitaker.

Leonard was involved in exciting fights because he very often fought guys that were his equal.

Floyd was many levels above his peers for the most part....hence why his fights were usually boring and hence why he was so dominant and had such a long career at the top. We shouldn't penalize him for this we should applaud him for it. It's not his fault that he was that good. Pacquiao struggled with Marquez at every weight....Floyd cruised with him. Tszyu and Castillo struggled with Hatton...Floyd beat him fairly easily when all was said and done. Canelo beat Cotto, Trout and Lara....Floyd beat him with room to spare. Floyd toyed with Mosley after Mosley gave Margarito a most vicious beatdown. Corrales was undefeated and knocking out everyone (would eventually stop Castillo), Floyd beat him like he stole something.

How would Roy Jones have said it? "They say I aint fought nobody...but I just make them look like nobody".

I never personally called Mayweather TBE. I think he's a legit top 10 all time fighter and arguably a top 5

This isn't based on just one or a few fights, nor is it based on him being undefeated...but is based on a combination of all of his achievements and proven abilities in the ring over a long career. We can nitpick about a couple things here and there...but we can't argue with the facts: unbeaten in 20 years, titles in 5 weight classes, x amount of title fight wins, outclassed very good fighters along the way, never been officially knocked down with a punch and the few times he's tasted adversity he passed the tests with flying colours.

Only an unrepentant hater would deny him his place.

 

Floyd has as much case of being top 5 all time fighter as Kermit Cintron has of being a top 5 all time PR fighter.
