To no one's surprise (now) Deadpool remained firmly on top of the crop of new releases with a hefty $55 million in its second week, almost exactly the numbers the studio was expecting for its first week. The Merc with Mouth has now grossed $235 million domestically and close to $500 million worldwide in just ten days. It is noteworthy to point out that in domestic numbers alone it has surpassed the entire total grosses of X-Men Origins: Wolverine the film that first showcased Ryan Reynolds in an awful Deadpool version back in 2009.

In a distant second place Kung Fu Panda 3 took $12.5 million.

Debuting in the third place Risen took $11.8 million which is not bad at all for this $20 million production.

The Witch scared $8.7 million which is also very good for this film that cost only $1 million to produce.

Rounding the top 5 is How to be Single which made $8.2 million in its second week.

    Other week's releases:
Race which debuted in the sixth spot with $7.7 million.

    AND...

China's own blockbuster record breaking hit The Mermaid crash landed in the #16 spot with a miserable $1 million gross debut. Take THAT Asians for what you did to to us: you did not embraced our blockbuster hits (The Force Awakens poor reception and banning Deadpool), we reject you sorry ass film. :crafty:

He was good in the beginning as mercenary Wade Wilson but utter shit as 'Weapon XI' at the end.

Not his fault that the writers and director decided to make Deadpool mute, unfunny and with weird powers, but yeah, his Wade Wilson was funny & cool.

It's not that - it's just the Chinesers are good for one thing only (and this is a long stretch):

Deadpool has crossed the $500 million mark worldwide in less than two weeks. Right now stands as THE most successful entry in the X-Men franchise (it is a spinoff, remember?) domestically and it will easily surpass the franchise's worldwide record holder X-Men: Days of Future Past $747 million in a couple of weeks. Not bad for a $58 million budget film, but lets keep in mind that Fifty Shades of Grey had a $40 million budget and grossed $571 million.

So...why did it contain one mutant who's laughable and shit and one mutant who's got a shit-jokey name and never talks?

You talking about "Fifty Shades Of Grey"? I'd like to know the answer to that myself.

In the wake of 'Deadpool' success now everybody is jumping to the R-rated wagon: Wolverine 3 will be R-rated and, surprise! 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' is also getting an R-rating, but WB will release it as PG-13 while when it releases on Blu-Ray will showcase the 'uncut R-rated version'...hmm trying to cover all bases, I guess.

I'm wondering if this is the right strategy. Deadpool might just be that successful despite the R-Rating but of course it could also be viewed as more cool...

Deadpool is a character that will not work within anything less than a mature rating. It is NOT for fucking kids. It has NEVER being intended for kids.

And yet, my 14 year old niece went to see it with her friends last week and thought it was a) great and b) "so funny"

When I asked her "Did you get it?" she just rolled her eyes at me and pulled a face...

    7/10

Good watch, solid enough. Glad they put a cap on the superhero cameos for this one. Look forward to a sequel when they can dispense of all of the origin story crap and just go full chaos if possible. Better then 95% of the superhero nonsense out there.
