Super Six World Boxing Classic 2007: 147lb

Discussion in 'Mythical Matchups' started by Rich ´Money´ Mustard, Mar 4, 2016.

  1. Bit if a variation on Mythical Marchups (and even though some of these have actually taken place - feel free to change-up any of them if need be), and based on the Super-Middleweight tournament of 2009 but with the six top Welterweights of that year, circa 2007:

    Group Stage 1
Antonio Margarito v Floyd Mayweather Jr (in Mexico City)
Shane Mosley v Kermit Cintrón (in New York City)
Miguel Cotto v Paul Williams (in Bayamón)

    Group Stage 2
Paul Williams v Shane Mosley (Las Vegas)
Floyd Mayweather Jr v Miguel Cotto (New York City)
Kermit Cintrón v Antonio Margarito (San Juan)

    Group Stage 3
Shane Mosley v Antonio Margarito(Los Angeles)
    Miguel Cotto v
    Kermit Cintrón (San Juan)
Floyd Mayweather Jr v Paul Williams (Las Vegas)

Which four make it to the Semi-Finals / Final based on the above permutations.

    Points:
3 pts for a Win by Knock-Out or Technical Knock-Out
2 pt for a Win by Points
    1 pr for a Draw

    Prize-Money:
Each fighter gets paid exactly same per fight:
    US$2,500,000 - Group Stage
    US$5,000,000 - Semi-Final
    US$10,000,000 - Final

  2. Mayweather Mosley cotto and Williams. Although margarito would beat cotto and no guarantee williams beats anyone besides margarito.

Finals would be Mayweather and Cotto

    Winner Mayweather........obviously.

  3. Group 1
Margarito home-advantage in front of 20,000 pissed-up Mexicans? Mayweather would be intensely intimidated.
    Group 3
No sure-thing that Mayweather beats Williams when he spent 3 years avoiding him at 147 either

R.A. The Rugged-Man, circa 2009 to Mayweather: "Paul Williams would spank yo ass"

I think Margarito would be live against any non puncher if fighting in Mexico. They could dose him with every steroid known to man and load his gloves without any worry of repercussion.

  5. ILLUMINATI

    ILLUMINATI Roberto Duran

Mayweather refused to join the event because he fears for his life....

Anybody who thinks that floyd would have beaten margarito easily doesnt really knows boxing

  7. It would have been a shut out. Margarito wouldn't have even won a minute of that fight. If ever there was a guy that was tailor made for Mayweather it was that cunt.

Most people where saying the same thing about MAidana before the first fight (I didn't) yet, the best he could manage was a very contentious decision. He didn't had the power to hurt MArgarito and the relentless pressure would have forced him to run a marathon. Not impossible that he wins a stinker, but it would be very close.

  9. Of course...that, coupled wth an iron-chin, endless-walk-forward pressure, size-advantage, consistent power and a home-crowd advantage would ensure that, at 147lb, the fight would be a lot different to Castillo at 135lb.

Maragarito by late stoppage: 3 pts.

I know you'd love to believe it would be a replay of Jones Jr. vs Julio Gonzalez but it wouldn't. Margarito would have been problematic which is why he was avoided.

    agree, same goes for Williams

  12. It would have been Mayweather-Corrales minus the KDs. Easy work.

  13. Floyd was 100 years old when he fought Maidana...and Maidana was a madman unlike the more measured pressure from Margarito.

  14. Fuck your 100 years old up your closet-gay asshole.
You know full-well Margarito is pushing Mayweather's shit in like Luke Skywalker.

    Margarito TKO 10 Mayweather
    Mosely KO8 Cintron
    Cotto Pts12 Williams

So, after Group Stage 1 it stands:
    Mosley 3pts
    Margarito 3pts
    Cotto 2pts
    Williams 0pts
    Mayweather 0pts
    Cintron 0pts

  15. Margarito couldn't push Floyd's shit in even with the help of a loaded condom.

For sure. There is a reason why pbf retired when these two were in their primes and at the top of the division.

If Miguel Cotto Could SCHOOL Margarito for 6 Rounds, Floyd Could Replicate That for Nearly 12...

BEST Case Scenario for Margarito is a 10-2 LOSS...It's Floyd-Castillo II or Floyd-Baldomir, All Over Again...

STYLES Make Fights and there's NATHAN About Margarito's Style that Suggests he'd Even Be Competitive w/Floyd...Even an 8-4 Loss is a STRETCH...Floyd-Margarito has 10-2, 11-1 Written All Over It...

Again, Miguel Cotto SCHOOLED Margarito for 6 Rounds...Cotto's NEVER Had the Mobility or Conditioning of Floyd & as a Result, he was FATIGUED from Margarito's Pressure and his Own Stick-and-Move Gameplan...That's What LOST the Fight for Cotto, Along w/his Lack of Defensive Wherewithal and the Likely Effects of Absorbing Shots from LOADED Gloves...

How EXACTLY Would Margarito Trouble Floyd, Nevermind BEAT Him???....Is he Gonna Wait to POUNCE, After Floyd has Broken Both Hands from Landing Left Jabs/Hooks and Lead Rights All Night Looooooooooooong???...Floyd-Margarito Has Always Been 1 of the EASIER Mythical Matchups to Handicap, in REED's Opinion...

Now Floyd vs. Paul Williams, On the Other Hands..........????

Marg would have given Floyd a tougher fight than Fall Paul.

I think both would give him hell, and an upset wouldn't surprised me at all. Floyd is a great, great fighter, but a ww (and above), he's way overrated.

REED Doesn't See it That Way @ All, Brother X...

Williams Didn't Have a Great Jab, but he WOULD Use It...How Does Floyd Deal w/EXTREME Height and Reach like That, Not to Mention Williams' Souf' Paw Stance???...Williams Possessed a LOT More Intangibles; Things Floyd's NEVER Encountered in a Fight, than Margarito Did...

Clottey is another fighter that would have troubled PBF imo. His jab and strenght would have made thing very unconfortable for Floyd. I would make him a heavy underdog, since he had a loser mentality, buy he would have been a much more credible opponent than the Guerrero and Ortiz of this world.
