The thing is he went the distance with pacquaio, and Khan, and might actually have beaten Khan, and beat Provodnikov and climbed off the mat to do so with only one good eye. At the very least, he doesn't deserve outright rampant disrespect.
I don't know about Spence, if he is as good as he is made out to be. I am not saying that respecting Algieri means picking him to win, I AM saying that respecting Algieri means people shouldn't say "Ha ha ha metrosexual fag" everytime his name gets mentioned, especially when it gets mentioned in connection with good fights.
He could be 10 metrosexual fags, it's not like people say "Womanizing dog-eating cheat who hates queers" when they see Pacquaio, now is it :dunno:
That's two people who think Algieri might have beaten Khan. Did either of you watch the fight. Not Khan's best performance by far and Algieri did well for himself in a loss but there's no way in hell that Algieri won that fight. Two judges had it 9-3 and there wasn't a peep from the announcers or anybody there.
It was close but Khan won. I do agree with Irish though that Algieri should be commended for always taking on the top guys.
I don't think anyone has ever called Greg Haugen, Bones Adams, Tex Cobb, or Maddog Hatcher yuppies. They're the exact opposite of yuppies.
I've seen a few Youtubers that are actually picking Algieri to OUTCLASS the "overrated" Spence who is only a name because Floyd mentioned him.
Well, Spence is unproven so Algieri wouldn't be that big of an upset. In fact, would it be an upset at all ??? Does someone knows the odds ???
THIS... Haugen, Adams, Cobb and Hatcher are a LOT Rougher Around the Edges than Algieri Is...They Possess a "Working Class" Element that ESCAPES Algieri, for Better or Worse... You're Not Likely to Catch Those Dudes Rockin' a Turtleneck and Sports Coat, Tooooooo Often...& Though All are Effective @ Getting their Point Across, Verbally, None are as POLISHED as Algieri... REED:hammert:
GOOD... If There's a Handful (or More) of Fans Leaning Towards Algieri, it Only ADDS Credibility to the Win...Especially if Spence Does So IMPRESSIVELY... As for Floyd, Admittedly, that's Probably THE Biggest Reason why Fans Have Heard of Spence, to this Point...But Floyd Mentioned Him BECAUSE of the Quality of their Sparring...It's NOT like Floyd's Promoting Spence and it's Not Like He Makes a Habit of PRAISING Other Fighters Either...Spence EARNED his Respect... This is EJ's 1st BIG Step Towards Making a Name for HIMSELF... REED:cheer:
REED Isn't Sure of the Odds, but Spence is SURELY Favored...1.5 - 1 or 2 - 1 Favorite, REED's Guessing... It'd Be a SLIGHT Upset; Not a Meme Worthy Upset, but NOTABE to Hardcore Fans...Similar to Jesse James Leija Beating Camacho Jr. or Panchito Bojado... Put it This Way, if Algieri BEAT Spence, He'd Get an IMMEDIATE Title Shot...REED Bets ALL the Current Beltholders Would Make a LEGIT Effort to Fight Him Next, Whereas NONE of Them are Crazy about Facing EJ... REED:hammert:
I'd be very surprised to see these odds materialize. If they do, I'd put a few bucks on Algieri. I don't think he'll win (heck, I pick Spence to win easily), but he's good, tough and proven enough to at least have a chance against such an unproven prospect.
