The less George Lucas involvement there is the greater the chance for the franchise' success.

 

Lucas originally was going to remain as creative consultant, but he admitted that Disney & JJ Abrams rejected his original premise and decided to create a completely brand new story that would please the fans. Lucas has expressed that is better for him to stay away as he would want to do things his way and would create trouble as they want to take it to another direction. He also declared that Star Wars is nothing more than a soap opera.

 

I was talking to someone about the Star Wars series and in particular the three prequels - I had mentioned how silly / irritating the opening 15 mins to 'The Phantom Menace' appeared now with the aliens and quasi-racist accents and droids who sounded like Twiki from 'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century'

He, being an original 'fan' from the 1970s suggested people shouldn't get all bent out of shape about them because "at the end of the day, it's just entertainment - and mainly for kids of ages 5-20...and shouldn't be 'picked-apart' because anything like that leads you down 'Nerd Boulevard'.
And there's nothing worse than nerds in their 30s and 40s whining about 'Scared Cows' of their youth"

He probably watched the pirated blu-ray version that became available online a few days ago. Disney is in panic mode as it has been downloaded by everybody and their brother just two weeks before it is released in Blu-ray & DVD in stores.

 

I thought everyone....who liked or had mild interest in movies...had been to see this movie at theaters 3 months ago! ::

Really though, why was the bad guy so shit and how did the girl become a grand jedi within 2hours

The black guy got whooped by a storm trooper, yet managed to battle a sith master...so basically any storm trooper has a 50/50 shot at killing their boss

 

Yeah, those were stupid plot gimmicks. Lazy & dumb writing. The movie is still entertaining and fun despite its many weakness.
