I care enough to post on this thread is 1 out of 10....Even at his best when he was fighting legit fighter I didn't give much thought to Ward 5/10 at most....boring negative bastard.
I've seen Barera vs Murat, he's really slow but technically sound and seems strong as hell. It should be an interesting fight.
There's only one lightskinned brotha that the city of Oakland cares about right now, and it ain't Ward.
I've seen him a few times... he's alright. He's a better fighter than Edwin Rodriguez, for whatever that's worth. But I can't see him doing much tomorrow besides getting outclassed.
He won't do shit to Ward. Ward will pull his typical boring as fighting style and win. Hopefully Kovalev beats Ward.
I wonder if Ward will walk to the ring with Steph again. If he does, Steph will definitely get a bigger applause.
Khan to Ward "Aye Dre, you think I got any shot against Ginger?" Ward "You'll probably need the REAL Son of God to win."
I thought Ward looked alright. He clearly outclassed Barrera. But he did look a little slow in spots and caught some shots.
Yeah, to me Ward is definitely slower/less sharp now than he was circa the Froch fight. And I don't think it's JUST ring rust. He was in his physical prime back then and he's no longer a young man.
Me too. It's by FAR the best fight to be made in the sport. Moreso than Golov-Canelo, where we all know Golov is gonna win. Ward-Kov is highly debatable. But I haven't changed, I still pick Kov.
Ward-Kov is the more evenly matched fight on paper and the better matchup on paper....but Golov-Canelo interests me more. Put it this way....if we knew that only ONE of those fights are allowed to be made and we have to pick one...I'd pick Golovkin-Canelo without hesitating.
fight last night reminded me of a rjj fight. opponent seemed completely befuddled. and ward utterly controlled the pace of the fight.
i think for the most part, the point of view here is that of a boxing fan. glad you are here to keep us in touch with the promoter's point of view.
Different types of out classing though. Jones took guys out of fights with his unreal speed and talent. Ward is just extremely crafty and has a very high ring IQ, despite not having great physical talent. Sullivan Barrera wouldn't have gone the distance with Jones though. Guy doesn't seem to have the best chin. Jones would have starched him. Roy would have also obliterated guys like Edwin Rodriguez and Allen Green.
I thought Ward looked good. Looking forward to his fight with Kovalev. If Ward wants another fight and the Kovalev match gets pushed to early next year I'm ok with that. The sooner the fight the better for Kovalev as Ward works off rust. Both guys need the fight but legacy wise, it's more important for Kovalev than Ward. Ward's resume shits on his by miles. Everyone gets caught up in the hype and the power of Kovalev but facts are facts, Ward is more proven at this point than he is. If Ward is sharp I still have him beating Kovalev despite having a few shaky moments due to Kovalev's power. Ward is so good defensively and last night still showed quickness in his counters...if he's able to do that against Kovalev he best thing he'll have going for him is making Kovalev think and hesitant to let his shots go in fear of the counter. After that, it's Ward-Froch II.
