Nope. It's just that Duran fans ignore those and his other losses. Above lightweight he wasn't a consistent performer and consistency is important because anyone can look like a killer on a given night. The buster Douglas who beat Tyson looked like a top 3 all time heavyweight

Its absurd how most of you dont give pac at least a decent chance against Duran. But then, a few posters have the classic attitude of overrating the era in which they grew up. With his speed, Pac would land a lot of straight left, and he has enough power to hurt Duran. Very interesting fight, and far from a given.

Agreed that Duran mugs Marquez though.

Some of these numbskulls would pick Duran to beat Roy Jones at middleweight. There's no limit to what Duran could accomplish according to his fans.

Anyway pac's speed power work rate and movement would beat Duran. That's not taking anything away from Duran it's just that Pac is a phenomenon.

I also agree that Duran would have beaten Marquez , but that doesn't mean anything. Duran beat Leonard who stopped hearns who fucked Duran anally without lubrication.

I have no chance against Duran even now. I'm sure he can still fight with his fat self.

I would take Duran over all of Pac's scalps at 147 and above and he wouldn't have needed catch weights.

I also would take Pac to lose to Duran, Leonard, Hearns, and Benitez.

I don't see Pac beating the likes of prime Trinidad, De La Hoya, Mosley, Vargas, Quartey, or Forrest, let alone the 80s boys.

had they never fought you would have picked Duran to beat Laing and Benitez too, probably hearns also (based on what each did against Leonard) so who cares?

I'd pic pax to beat every Duran scalp with the exception of Leonard. If Duran fought all the guys Pacquiao fought at 140 and above he'd have lost to at least two of them. Duran lost to Laing . He wasn't a consistent global killer. Duran would not have beaten de la Hoya or hatton as easily as pac did.

Laing is unforgivable....a lapse in judgement...like getting KTFO by Marquez.......but don't act like Benitez wouldn't wipe his ass with both your boyfriend and Pacquiao....

If we were talking about PRIME Oscar, Pac doesn't beat him. But Duran DOES...

Hatton would last longer than he did against Duran, but it wouldn't mean much. He wouldn't last the distance and it would be one sided.

Considering how easily pac disposed of dlh (even if he was past his prime, and probably dehydrated) im not willing to completely dismiss his chances against a prime dlh. I know most will disagree, but i think pac has a hell of a chance against benitez (who is very overrated imo). I could also see him outwork quartey, but i eouldnt bet on it. Against the rest, he has close to no chances imo

An on game Benitez is a really bad match up for Pac.

Taller/rangier, with a good jab, defense, and exquisite counter punching ability. He'd time Pac on the way in consistently and I honestly see him stopping Pac in the late rounds, unless Manny goes into his shell after taking enough shots.

A case can be made to favor Pac against Quartey, at the very least a better one than against Benitez. The speed, angles and variety would work much more effectively against Ike.

Thinking about it. Yeah i agree. Fir quartey to win he would have to stop pac in his tracks with the jab. Far from a given that he would be able to do so

People assume Duran would have beaten prime de la Hoya only because he beat Leonard. Truthfully Leonard had no business losing to Duran in the first place and had they fought 10 times Leonard would have won 9.

If de la Hoya fought Duran the way he fought Mosley the first time Duran would have beaten him but if he boxes Duran, his greater hand speed, reach, size and power at 147lbs would have given him the victory.

Dlh is better than Laing. Oscar de la Hoya isn't likeable but he's as great a fighter as Benitez, objectively, and better than at least a couple fighters that had beaten Duran by the time of the early 80 s.

There's nothing laughable about it at all, just that people hate Oscar and love Duran. Oscars the naturally bigger man, arguably more powerful at the higher weights, faster, taller, longer reach and good enough chin and heart to survive Duran's attack.

Laing is the only defense this guy ever has...

And no, Oscar was not as good as Benitez. Not by a long shot.

On the night he beat Duran, Benitez was a better fighter than Oscar could ever DREAM to be.

On the night he beat Duran blah blah blah. You have this childish way of evaluating fighters based on one night. Styles motherfucker, styles. Other factors too. Consistency is the only true test.

You say the Benitez that beat Duran was unbeatable only because he beat Duran. But I'm telling you that many great fighters would have beaten Duran.

You and hut and cdogg and a few other like y'all based Duran's welterweight greatness on the Leonard fight ( and palomino to a lesser extent). But try to gloss over his losses in the same period. You can't do that motherfuckers we have to look at his entire body of work.

Buster Douglas looked like a killer in a couple fights. Honeghan looked great against curry but like a bum against starling. The list goes on.

Duran looked good against certain styles and against an overconfident Leonard on a night Duran was particularly inspired. But Duran was an inconsistent performer above lightweight because he couldn't handle every single style.

De la Hoyas jab power reach speed gives Duran fits.

You can't use those examples as if they are comparable and here's why.

No one is claiming that the late 70 s Ali is beating Tyson, Holyfield etc
No one is claiming all time greatness on the version of Jones that lost to Johnson

However Duran orcs are claiming that the Duran of the early 80 s ( the welterweight and above version) is beating de la Hoya, Pacquiao, Mayweather etc. Well if y'all are claiming that shit then his losses during that time frame are indeed relevant.

    Ya dig?

In a mythical match up 'welterweight' duran = Montreal or palomino. When he was in peak shape and had his head together. just like if you're matching 'tyson' vs 'Ali' you're marching 1988 tyson not post divorce, post Rooney, post proper training Tyson of a few years later

So then all mythical match ups are ignoring the losses or bad performances of fighters? We're only considering them in one or two fights?

Is that the rule we are applying across the board ?

If that is the case I don't want you are any Duran Orc to bring up pacquiao's losses to morales or Marquez, ever again when evaluating him in a matchup. Instead only consider the guy with the dominant performances as the peak Pacquiao.

Of course no one does that, so why should we do that with Duran ?
