Michael Spinks v Sergey Kovalev

  1. At 175lb.

    Spinks: 1982 version
    Kovalev: 2016 version

Kov is one of my favorite current fighters, but he loses pretty big here.

Spinks was too good and too complete, and Kov's never been tagged with anywhere near the power of the Jinx.

Spinks UD is the safe pick, but Spinks late KO is possible if Kov's chin isn't as good as we think.

  3. What about Kov's power on Spinks' chin?

Spinks did get hit and Kovalev hits like the best of them so there is a chance but it is a very slim one since everything else seems to speak for Spinks' win, as X pointed out

If Kovalev were to destroy Ward and perhaps some of the best cruisers after that there might be a reason to reconsider but it isn't likely

It would be interesting to see what approacj Spinks take with this guy. Does he box him cautiously like he did against Qawi, or bombs him out like he did with Lopez? Either way, all point to a Spinks win

Spinks chin? Since when is that a problem?

Since it gets hit by Kovalev's sledgehammer? Roberto Duran's chin was never a problem either but...:stir:

    But yeah, Spinks wins

  8. Spinks should be favoured but Kovalev is live here

  9. We need to see Kovalev in with a banger and in a war. Then everything will be answered. As it stands he is potentially as good as spinks, Foster, Charles or anyone else at that weight. Stress on the word, potentially.

Uh, Spinks was knocked out by Mike Tyson, as Kovalev would be ... Outside of that, there's no indication the guy did anything other than take a good shot at 175

Exactly, I don't think he ever was off his feet before the Tyson fight, and he faced a fuck load of punchers.

Of course Kovy could hurt him, since he hit like a mack truck, but it is rather unlikely.

  14. Yup, Spinks had a solid chin at 175lbs....but against Tyson he turned out to be an "ABJECT COWARD". Disgraceful display of cowardice from a great fight. Disgusting.

Spinks was scared as all Hell and fought like it. I just can't understand when some idiots say he took a dive. The finishing right hand was a thing of beauty, and Spinks eyes were clearly in the back of his head. He was unconscious.

I'd say he had pretty good reason to be scared.

In any case, bringing up the Tyson fight is totally irrelevant here.

Kov wouldn't last 1 round with a prime Tyson either.
