Golovkin reminds me a lot of Monzón: both guys hit like trucks, measured, calculating and calm in the ring - there doesnt seem to be any flat-out rage when they destroy opponents. Both are same height and build, bith have great conditioning and resilience but Monzón has a 6" reach advantage and is clearly better-looking. Who wins between, arguably the greatest middleweight evah...or the heir to that throne? Vs
Could go either way. Neither guy faced a guy as good as the other. Likely go the distance since both have solid chins. Close decision either way.
While triple GGG has shown some very good boxing ability at his core he's a seek and destroy type fighter. It's not just about matching him against an all time great, it would be somewhat easier to picture if we see Golovkin against a tough fighter with a dominant jab and how he handles it.
First of GGG is NO heir to the throne..... second..Monzon easily.... and SLY I think Emile Griffith, Nino Ben Benvenuti, Jose Napoles would have something to say about that bullshit of..."neither one has face a guy as good as teh other"..I don't give a fuck how old Griffith and Napoles were they are both MILES ahead of GGG.... GGG is very promising fighter..but he hasn't face anyone worth a damn....HELL I don't think GGG would beat BENNIE BRISCO the man was a fucking ROCK...
I'm convinced that Sly has no reference of any fighter pre-90s, except for the mainstream ones like Leonard/Hagler/Duran/Hearns. The difference in opposition between the two is just ridiculous. Wake me up when Golov fights someone a FRACTION as good as Valdez.
You're probably right about Sly, there. Okay, but let's drop opposition for a minute and focus on their individual skills. I mean, Aaron Pryor had fought dogshit by the time he went in against Alexis Arguelleo, yet he still gets put up there as some all-destroying HoF'er (unwarranted, IMO, I might add)
On individual skills, I see Monzon winning. He was actually less hittable than Golov. I mean, there's a HUGE difference between finding scrubs like Macklin and Lemoo, and dealing with Monzon's consistent jab and accuracy. I don't think Golov has ever been in with a guy who can actually outjab him.
GGG is underrated. I never said his opposition was as good as Monzon's, I said that neither man has faced a fighter as good as the other. None of Monzon's opponents were as formidable as GGG. That's all I'm saying. If you think otherwise then you are under-rating the GGG. Also if any of you think Monzon wins this easily, you're doggone nuts!
Underated?? If anything GGG is OVERATED....fucking fanboys saying he's one of the greatest middleweights EVER....HBO calling him P4P one of the all time greatest middleweight....fucking Flomos calling GGG underated just in the off chance that Flomo fights him and is victories...then WOW...he beat one of the greatest MIDDLEWEIGHT off all time....:notallthere: GGG hasn't face anyone with a JAB...he hasn't face a BOXER puncher....or even a REAL PUNCHER(LEMOEXU is shit) When Lameout, gabriel rosado are two of your top 5 opponent you ever face....you ain't SHIT. Bad Bennie will take GGG to hell and back...
I'm not ready to say with any certainty that Golov would have beaten Rodrigo Valdez. Shit, if ANYBODY is underrated, it's Valdez. Valdez should be in the HOF and isn't.
youre looking at this all the wrong way, as is the custom of most boxing fans these days. If a guy doesn't have any top guys to fight then what you look at is how he beats the available opposition in order to gauge how good he is. He can't help it if he doesn't have Valdez and the rest of those guys to fight. So we look at what he does now. What does he do? He dominates the division with ease, knocking out man after man without breaking a sweat. A great fighter does this consistently to weak opposition. He's passed this test. Some great fighters struggle with mediocre fighters like Kirkland Lang and Lloyd honeyghan, for example, but this guy meets equivalent guys and fuck them up without being tested. So, In conclusion, beating one of two mediocre guys doesn't mean shit, but beating over 30 with ease means plenty.
GTFOH...one name YORI BOY CAMPAS 56-0 (50Ko's) before he ran into a juggernaut name Felix Trinidad... hell there was this unknown GGG by who was 31-1 (30Ko's) before he ran into your boo "Pretty Boy" Floyd.... GODDAMMIT...there was this dude who came out of the jungles of Colombia...28-0 (26 Ko's)...muy MACHO...until he ran into Miguel Cotto.... GARBAGE is GARBAGE 2 bums or 29 bums....BUMS are BUMS...
Campos and Torres records weren't built on weak world class fighters, though Campos had a few decent wins, they were built on journeyman. Even still, Campos wouldn't have that record if not for his chin and Torres wouldn't have that record without his power and they both won world titles with those attributes which were legit. So theirs something to be said about consistency at any level.
Or how bout Nino La Rocca, who went 56-0, and the one time he stepped up in competition at 58-1, he fought Donald Curry, who only had 19 fights, for the WW title (spoiler: he gets KO'd)
Interesting fight. I think ggg has a better chance against monzon thst he does against bhop or hagler, who are way too slick for him imo, but at the end of the day, i think monzon counter rights and jabs would carry the day. Also, there is some things that ggg did in the lemieux fight that makes me think he might be a frontrunner
I agree with the first sentence. I think Golov fares better against Monzon than he would against prime Hagler or Hopkins.
