    If the film was shit with just good special effects it wouldn't have receive so much of both critical and commercial success.

    You can't disguise bullshit in gold wrapping for too long

    The only people criticizing it are the people that are wired to go against the grain and just criticize things that everyone else loves.

    Agreed. Raptors kick ass. Avatar isn't about the majesty or not of the blue creatures it's the overall experience of the new fantasy world and the beautiful story filled with emotion and drama. A masterpiece.

    You never answer the question.

    Can you recall ONE line of dialogue from Avatar? Or better yet, ONE memorable scene?

    These are the signs of great movies. They have dialogue, and scenes that people can actually remember over the years.

    And you STILL can't name any characters.

    i can name quite a few characters, many memorable scenes. Asking for a great deal of classic dialogue, however, is unfair as its not that type of film. However I gain nothing by obliging you as you are unrepentant in your position and would scoff at anything I share just for the sake of it.

    I'll just say this:

    The whole connecting with the animals and nature and the scenes with the hunters flying on the mountain banshees ( as they were called) and the feel of the world that Cameron created was just spectacular. The dramatic sequences such as the destruction of home tree and the final battle were epic.

    I mean the film speaks for itself , I don't have to defend it. It's a remarkable work of art.

    It's so suspenseful that even though I already know what's going to happen, it's still suspenseful

    One would have to ignore the plot and the writing to think highly of Avatar

    Yeah, that picture cracked me up too. It's very good. Lol

    Anyway, liking films is like being attracted to certain women or liking certain music, it's highly subjective.

    For example I can't take Xplosive seriously when he wants to lecture me about what is a good film or not when this same person thinks batman ( with Keaton and Nicholson) is a better film than Batman Begins. In my opinion it's not even close to being close.

    Nope. Same reason billions of women...er....I mean people did the same with Titanic.
    Another popular-yet-shit movie that appeals to cunts.

    The Cameron Effect.

    I can vaguely remember Avatar for these things:
    * Sigourney Weaver's last known movie
    * 3D
    * Eye-strain / headache
    * Complete lack of repeat-viewibility

    I enjoyed the 3D aspects of Avatar in the cinema...but watching it on a 2D 40' TV highlights how irredeemably awful it is/was in terms of plot, script, characterisation

    Titanic is 10 light years better than Avatar.

    The second half of Titanic is watchable and exciting.

    I'll NEVER re-watch Avatar.

    Lex Luthor said something to the effect of " some read War and Peace and come away thinking its a simple adventure story, others read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe".

    Some watch Avatar and all they get out of it is a bunch of blue aliens running around in a heavy CGI world. Their minds are empty.

    Others watch it and see spiritual parallels, political and philosophical parallels, the power of unity , the power of courage and faith, hope and perseverance in the face of impossible odds etc...

    I think only you and Donald Curry's see that in Avatar.

    I think PARENTS like Avatar cause it's a fun movie to show to their kids.

    You're the first GROWN person I've ever heard consider it a great movie.

    It's a piece of shit and won't stand the test of time.

    And this is why your Three Days Of The Condor mention warrants inclusion I guess.
    Actress Emily Blunt said, during making of Sicario last year: "Hollywood doesnt make movies for adults anymore"

    Hardly. Scores higher on rotten tomatos than Cape fear, falling down, philidelphia, bttf3, godfather 3, jacobs ladder and home alone, just sticking to films from the early nineties. I like it, pacino's darling in it

    This is a bit like your "Statistics are like a bikini..." line... I've seen you write this about 12 times :mut:

    Quotes attributed to fictional villains... hmmm

    Freud apparently said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" ... Well, sometimes a mediocre film is just a mediocre film
