Again, on paper McClellan is too big, too tough, too powerful and should wipe out the ginger in a few rounds. However I said the same thing before the Benn fight. So I never know what to pick where McClellan is concerned. He was VERY easy to hit and although he had the natural talent to box he usually fought it a predictable one dimensional manner. I would still pick gman by KO early, but it would be a nervous pick

Well McClellan showed against Benn that if he doesn't get you out early he may blow his load and get discouraged. So the question is: can he get Canelo out of there early? I'm not so sure
I'm really scratching my head that you keep bringing up the Benn fight. You act like Gerald wore out in that fight from a lack of stamina. He wore out cause his FUCKING BRAIN WAS BLEEDING!
He was wearing out from as early as the third round. Yes the brain injury caused his demise ultimately but he seemed to get discouraged after failing to end Benn in the first round.
Canelo would get 2 mins to get up against McClellan, at which point G-man would get deducted 2 points for punching Canelo in the face. REED would say, "That's okay, Canelo is the DRAW!! He can do what he wants! Who cares that he just got 2 minutes to recover? It's no WORSE than Golov demanding 164 against Ward."
I agree completely . Still, he was obviously discouraged as Benn went on to win the next two or three rounds
In his defence, he got discouraged because Benn was punching him very hard, repeatedly in the face. I don't think Canelo would have been able to do that, frankly. MTF
A common misconception: WBC rules at the time stated that a fighter who is knocked out of the ring got 20 seconds, not 10, to get back up. Once he got back up the referee was needlessly fussy, mind. He was useless rather than incompetent I think. Whoever at the WBC thought it a good idea to get a non-speaking French bloke to referee a fight between an Englishman and an American... MTF alm:
I don't remember exactly but wasn't Benn a pretty solid super middle for a while with very good punching power and McClellan going up in weight? Also the rabbit punches... and also that he had a fucking brain damage that almost cost his life.... wasn't that kind of the reason he wasn't as good in round 10 than he was before... aka "blew his load" :scratcher: edit: shoulda read page 2...
