Punch power categories

Let's have some fun.

Let's bucket punching power into categories from 1 to 10

Category 1 is one punch lights out frightening devastating power and category 10 is " can't punch your way out of a wet paper bag.

Category 2 is devastating power driven typically by snap but not quite as concussive as category 1 etc

Let me start :

Category 1: Julian Jackson , Gerard McClellan, Ernie Shavers, Naseem Hamed
Category 2: Hearns, Tyson, foreman, Louis, Lewis, Benn, Liston , Robinson
Category 3: Marciano, Frazier, Trinidad, Bowe, Klitschko, Jones , corrales,
Category 4: Eubank, GGG, Duran, De La Hoya,Judah, cotto, Pacquiao
Category 5: Hagler, Chavez, Mosley, morales, Norton, Canelo
Category 6: Leonard, Holyfield, Marquez, Barrera, mayweather, Ali
Category 7:
Category 8
Category 9
Category 10

Under NO fucking circumstances whatsoever was McClellan a better or bigger puncher than Tyson.

Mike was wrecking guys KNOWN for having tough chins. McClellan was not.

And LMAOOOOOOOO @ putting Leonard and Floyd in the same power category. That's rich...

Leonard was a better puncher than Floyd. I don't mean just in an absolute sense, P4P as well.

Lumping Leonard in with Barrera as a puncher is a horrible insult to Ray, but I fully expect it from you.

 

I'm BEGGING for you to explain to us what makes Canelo a better puncher than Leonard. I'd LOOOVVVEEEEE to hear the reasoning. Why? Because he KO'd Khan and Kirkland with one punch? Sooooooo impressive...

Fragile ass Cotto wouldn't have seen the later rounds with Leonard, nevermind the distance.

Austin Trout wouldn't have seen more than 6 rounds against Leonard.

Leonard against Kirkland and Khan? LMAO! You could have both those bums try to jump Ray at the same time, and you're still looking at a Leonard KO 1.

youre an idiot if you evaluate punching power that way. Ali stopped Bonavena and Frazier didn't do it in two tries. Mayweather knocked down corralled 5 times yet Freitas couldn't do that even once. Who were the harder punchers in those scenarios? Don't let me continue to school you on boxing

 

I fail to see how Canelo is a harder puncher than Leonard.

CHINS matter. Please let me know when Canelo stops a guy known for his chin.

Kirkland and Khan have arguably the two worst chins in boxing history.

 

Canelo has heavier hands than Leonard did. Leonard would likely KO some guys than Canelo couldn't simply because he's more aggressive, throws more punches and is the better finisher.

We're not talking about finishing ability here or aggression, JUST power! Just power. Is that too hard to understand?

 

Malinaggi would have to be near the bottom.

 

And I'm asking you.... WHERE IS THE POWER????? No, not on Khan or Kirkland... where is the power on anybody else?

He hit Cotto with literally EVERYTHING he had, and Cotto was never in serious trouble. Which was shocking to me, as I thought the little stocky bitch was a bigger puncher. I picked him by late stoppage.

But no, with all his vaunted power, he never put a dent on Miguel Cotto...

I'd put Baby Cow Diaz at the bottom. Diaz had no hand problems, and put full force into every shot, and STILL couldn't break a paper bag.

 

Yeah that's true. With Diaz it really looked like he was putting effort into his shot. Planting his feet, getting body rotation etc. but just no results.

 

Hamed didn't stop Barrera but Pacquiao did. Do you think Pacquiao had heavier hands than Hamed ?

 

I think Canelo is a good puncher, but I fail to see how he is a better puncher than Leonard.

Leonard stopped the likes of Hearns, Benitez, and Kalule. I don't see Canelo stopping those guys at 154, and in don't even need to ask what would happen to the likes of Angulo, Khan, and Kirkland at the hands of Leonard.

And I don't see the likes of Lara, Trout, Cotto, and old Mosley going the distance with Leonard either.

For me, Leonard is a better/harder puncher than Canelo.

 

asbi said before punch power isn't the only determination as to who gets stopped. Ruddock couldn't stop Tyson but Holyfield did. Canelo isn't particularly busy whereas Leonard was. But one off punches, canelos hands were heavier

Who has Leonard one punch KO 'd?

 

Green was a one punch KO you fool.

It was TECHNICALLY a 4-punch combo, but the first 3 shots were throw aways.

It was ONE LEFT HOOK that stretched Green.

Dave Green = Better chin than Khan and Kirkland

Green was actually out COLDER than Khan and Kirkland.

It looked like Ray had literally killed Green.

Not a one punch KO but a prime example of Leonard's speed and power against a guy who had never been KO'd.

 

That might be the worst ref I've ever seen.

 

Marquez was a very good puncher. He belongs a class or two higher. Eubank a harder hotter than Hagler?

 

10 categories is too granular. we as simple spectators can't possibly discern such subtle differences. i propose 5 or even 3.

 

5 is possible, 3 is ludicrous. 7 is probably the perfect number. Everything is in 7s

 

One punch power...most definitely. Hagler was more likely to get a KO because of his workrate, and finishing ability (and proclivity) but Eubank's right hand was a harder punch than any Hagler punch. Hagler's power tends to be overrated as a result of the Hearns KO.

what pcts of total would you attribute to each of those? is jackson a 1 percenter?

 

I dunno, Pac was a brutal puncher at the lower weights (as was Hamed, obviously)

 

Perhaps but so what? Bill Gates is a one percenter in terms of net worth. Should I place him in the same category as a guy with a net worth of a few million?

 

Crazy as it sounds, I think Tyson is actually UNDERRATED as a puncher.

There's no puncher in history who's a full TIER above Mike as a puncher. Not even Jackson.

Tier 1 punchers are guys like Jackson, Tyson, Foster, Hearns, Foreman, ect..

Tier 2 punchers are guys like Trinidad, Rosario, Rodrigo Valdez

 

I think Lewis hit as hard as Tyson

 

Tyson vs Ruddock fights tells you that he's tier 2. Bruno fights too. But tier two is very high. Jackson was just on a different level .
