Captain America: Civil War opened to a smashing $181.8 million domestically becoming the fifth highest grossing debut ever and the third MCU biggest opening ever. No it did not opened above $200 million like the two Avengers films as some people predicted (Marvel accurately predicted a $175-180 million opening). I think that those predicting a $200 million plus opening were either too optimistic due to the great reviews, forgot that this was not 'The Avengers 3', but a 'Captain America' sequel, or were cynic butt-hurt DC fans that just wanted to call this film a disappointment by setting the opening too high. Anyway, this domestic gross combined with the international box office put this Marvel film at a jaw-dropping $678 million which is more than the entire run of 'Thor: The Dark World' and more than what 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' grossed in 10 days. Will this film reach the $1 billion mark? Most likely, but we need to wait until next weekend to find out if it has enough 'legs' to hold over for a few weeks particularly when its biggest competitor, X-Men: Apocalypse open on May 20.

Disney also claimed the second spot as The Jungle Book added $21.8 million for a domestic total of $285 million and $775 million globally.

Defying all odds Mother's Day had a 7% increase benefiting from the holiday of its namesake title after a disappointing debut last week. The film took an estimated $9 million for a current $20 million total.

The Huntsman: Winter's War had a 62% drop from last week grossing $3.5 million for a current total of $40 million. But that drop was not as awful as Keanu which took a 67.4% in its second week with a flat $3 million gross.

Finally, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had 73% drop from last week and barely made $1 million to remain in the #10th spot. the WB/DCEU has a current $327.2 million domestic total and $865.4 million worldwide. After this weekend it will go flatline and might finish its run with $870 million or less.

There is one Hollywood writer, Richard Freeman, that has been so blatantly downplaying the success of this film that makes me suspect he is being paid by DC  (the irony, right?). This dude had an article titled 'Ouch! Captain America: Civil War opens lower than 'Batman v Superman'!' Then goes on to explain he is referring to the opening night  Today, as the numbers are making him look like a total cunt, he wrote another article 'reporting' the box office with a doubting title 'Disney says Captain America Civil War made an estimated 181 million' adding 'the real numbers will be known tomorrow' while pointing what a box office disappointment this film is and how 'Batman v Superman' was so unjustly criticized while making similar box office.

But he doesn't mention that in China alone 'Captain America: Civil War' opened to one of the biggest debuts ever in that country with a whooping $95.1 million in just three days! Wait! That is almost the same number 'Batman v Superman' grossed in its entire run in China! yup BvS made a total of $95.7 million in China by the time it ended its run there. WTF is with haters twisting facts?

The film rocks! I may watch it a third time. I think I may have to purchase a black panther costume for Halloween. Lol

Were you paid by Disney to write that?

Do it. By the time the 'Black Panther' movie comes out next year everybody and their sister will be dressing as Black Panther on Halloween 2017.
