Most people think Calzaghe clearly won the fight. It's not generally considered a robbery or controversial fight.

 

On most site I went to, except this one (which is pretty brit centric), the decision is considered contentious.

I'm not saying it is a robbery, and I can see the case for claiming JC won (though I don't agree with it), but it was far from a clear win.

 

Hopkins had this high brow barbershop aura about him and Slappy was supposed to be this protected euro stepping up to a level of slick American blackness he'd never seen before. People tried to see what they wanted to see and argue the case but it wasn't genuine and nobody was talking about it being anything but a win for Slappy a week or two later.

 

ThaT's revisionism, and simply not true. Most polls on who won the fight were pretty close

 

I saw a poll on another board where most people had Degale losing to that Mexican he just fought. He clearly won and no one is going be sighting it as a robbery in the future. Casual fans and even hardcore fans can be swayed by bias and emotion but it's only temporary.

 

And why did AP, ESPN, and Yahoo had Bhop winning? Hell even the BBC had bernard winning and the daily mail (a UK newspaper) called it controversial.

Calzaghe did win clearly. It was a shit fight and an uncomfortable night but he had a definite lead by the end. The Reid fight is the contentious one, I had Reid nicking that at the time.

 

It's a fairytale that everyone started believing a week after the fight when they accepted the fight didn't happen the way they expected it to.

 

You're right. All these newsgroup rewrote their socrecards a week after the fight :scratcher:
