I don't think anything will ever top Anthony Mundine getting KO'd by Sven Ottke

Some historical context, Mundine quit Rugby league as a top player to persue boxing and he had this arrogance and dubbed himself "The Man", back in the day clubs and pubs would be fill to the brim hoping this clown would get smashed by someone.

Then September 11 happened and he made these comments on a morning show ""They call it an act of terrorism, but if you can understand religion, and our way of life, it's not about terrorism. It's about fighting for God's law, and America's brought it upon themselves." Afterwards he would claim he words were taken out of context and took more than 10 years to apologise for the comments, this added to the hatred that many had for Mundine and soon was ready for a fast tracked shot at a world title in his 11th fight.

His opponent was A feather fisted but undefeated champion in Sven Ottke with only 4 knockouts to his name and you wouldn't blame Mundine for saying that ""Ottke hits like a woman" in the prefight press conference.

Needless to say it caused huge celebrations throughout Australia and some say the slow and unnecessary 10 count by the American referee was in revenge for Mundines 9/11 comments,

 

I think I was the only one in the pub wanting him to win.
It was sad to see Aussies giving the finger (via the TV screen) to an Aussie, fighting for a world title, in Germany, after only 10 pro fights with possibly the most biased ref I've ever seen.
But then Mundine does act like a dickhead, says incredibly stupid things, & isn't the sharpest tool in the shed & we do have a proud tradition of wanting to cut down loud-mouth "up-themselves" tall poppies.
Funny thing is, if you meet Mundine (and I have), he's quite a quiet down-to-earth, humble guy...
Personally, while acknowledging that he's not a great fighter by any stretch of the imagination, I admire & respect what he has achieved, & think he has shown a lot of heart in the ring.

 

Mundine fucked up. Wayne Kelly was a New Yorker and Vietnam Vet and he gave Mundine every fucking second of that 10 count. ::

The crazy part about the Ottke Mundine fight is that Ottke scoring the almost impossible one punch KO was far more likely than Mundine being ahead on points that far into the fight by outboxing Ottke.

 

This fight always smelled a bit fishy. The punch that koed Mundine doesnt look like much, and Otkke is a known non puncher while Mundine have a pretty good chin
